PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police, Nasir Khan Durrani, has decided to observe August 4 as ‘Youm-i-Shuhada’ every year.

According to a statement issued here on Friday, AIG headquarters Mian Mohammad Asif had been made the focal person to coordinate for observing various functions planned for this day in an organised manner. On August 4, 2010 Frontier Constabulary (FC) commandant Safwat Ghayur was killed in a suicide attack on a roundabout near his office.

The statement said that the first meeting of the committee took place at the police lines, which was attended by senior police officials. During the meeting subcommittees were constituted for arrangements of the event. All the officers will form a committee under their command to make the arrangements in a befitting manner.

Different functions will be held daily starting from July 27. Speech competition at district level and ‘Quran Khwani’ in mosques of every police lines will also be organised. The main function of the ‘Youm-i-Shuhada’ will be held on August 4 at the Police Lines, Peshawar.

SUSPENDED:

Following public complaints, IGP Nasir Khan Durrani has suspended three police officials, including an SHO, and issued show cause notice to them for departmental action.

A statement issued here said that two citizens of Peshawar and Mardan had submitted two separate complaints to the IGP. A man from Mardan had alleged that SHO Shahbaz Ghari Riaz Khan and investigation officer SI Jamal Khan had trapped him in a wrong case by taking bribe from his opponents. In another instance, a man from Badhber had alleged that ASI Rahat Khan of Badhber police station was threatening him through his mobile phone.
