A private bank located in a populous and commercial area of Karachi was robbed of Rs6.5 million in broad daylight today (Wednesday). The incident took place when six armed bandits barged into National Bank of Pakistan located near Jauhar Chowrangi, overpowered the guards and staff inside the premises of the facility and looted Rs6.5 million. Some TV reports said that the looted amount from the bank was originally Rs3.7 million. While leaving, the bandits also took weapons of the guards and managed to escape successfully from the scene. Sources said it was intriguing that there were no CCTV cameras inside the bank due to which the bandits walked out of the bank safe. Police are investigating into the case. Gulistan-e-Jauhar is increasingly becoming an unsafe zone for banks and financial institutions to operate. On October 14, Habib Metropolitan Bank was robbed of Rs3.6 million while one of the security guards was also killed in an attempt to bar about five invaders from looting the bank. On October 2, Bank Al Habib located in the same area was deprived of Rs4.5 million. Research shows that most of the banks operating in Pakistan have their branches located in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. These include Standard Chartered Bank, Habib Metropolitan Bank, MCB Bank, Meezan Bank, Soneri Bank, Faysal Bank Ltd etc.
