JI also agrees to join alliance; Pir Pagara says Sindh will be PPPs real battleground; Nawaz welcomes army chiefs assurance of fair polls, smooth transfer of power
KARACHI: A three-party electoral alliance has been forged against the ruling PPP which would contest the upcoming general election from one platform.
Pakistan Muslim League-Functional and National Peoples Party, which parted ways with the ruling PPP, entered into an electoral alliance with the PML-N here on Tuesday. The three parties reached the agreement during a meeting between Nawaz Sharif and the spiritual leader of Hurs and Chief of PML-F Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashdi at the Kingri House here.
Significantly, two former governors of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto era Ghulam Mustafa Khar of the Punjab and Mumtaz Ali Bhutto of Sindh as well as former chief ministers of the two provinces were present in the meeting.
Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, former Sindh chief ministers Ghous Ali Shah and Liaquat Ali Jatoi, and Saleem Zia assisted Nawaz Sharif during the meeting. PML-F President Pir Sadruddin Shah Rashdi, former governor Punjab Ghulam Mustafa Khar, former federal minister
Mohammed Ali Durrani, Jam Madad Ali, Nusrat Sehar Abbasi, former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali, former federal Minister Ghous Bux Mehar, and Member Sindh Assembly Sheharyar Khan Mehar assisted Pagara.
Ghulam Murtaza Jatoi, President National Peoples Party, and MPA Sindh Assembly Masroor Jatoi of NPP were also part of the meeting.Speaking in a joint press conference, Pir Pagara in a strong worded tone said the PPP would wipe out from the three provinces and Sindh would be its battleground, as it will have to face the newly formed alliance comprising many heavyweights.
The PPP, he said, wanted to win the elections by hook or by crook adding that his alliance with Nawaz Sharif was in the national interest. He said if the PML-F had any lust for power, they would not have ended their alliance with the PPP.
He alleged that pre-planned rigging had begun and the MQMs separation from the PPP-led coalition government was an obvious proof of it, as the interim set up would be constituted with its consensus to elect the person of its own choice.
He said there would be one-to-one election between the PPP and their three-party alliance. The Pir Pagara said his late father desired to see all Muslim Leagues united at one platform and in this connection he had last contacted Nawaz Sharif and discussed about the possible unification, which was also endorsed by Sharif.
He asked the chief Justice and army chief to hold an inquiry by a tribunal into the sudden countrywide power blackout, panicking the nation. He asked if it was a message conveyed to the nation or was it really a technical fault. He said Takht-e-Lahore and Takht-e-Punjab were with him and he would surely inflict a massive defeat on the PPP and its allies in the upcoming general election.
Nawaz Sharif said all the three parties had agreed to cooperate in the election and efforts will be made to rope in other opposition parties including the nationalist parties possibly posing a credible threat to the PPP in its traditional stronghold.
He said Karachi was being hostage by certain mafias and the Supreme Court had also said that militant wings were working in the city but there was no crackdown on them.We have discussed the caretaker setup and agreed that all parties must be consulted before the appointment of interim government, Nawaz said, adding that in case of failure to evolve a consensus, the decision of the majority would be accepted in line with the democratic norms. He was confident that the country would see a fair and transparent electoral exercise soon.
The meeting also hoped that the chief election commissioner would adopt an effective monitoring system for free, fair and transparent election.Answering a question about the allegation that the PML N was patronizing terrorist organizations, he tauntingly said the PPP will one day accuse him of carrying out all terrorist activities in the country.
Let them say; time will prove who are behind such activities.Asked as to why he did not take notice of Karachi which had been burning for the last five years, Nawaz said one needed courage to fight with Zardari and we would surely force him to surrender one day.
Nawaz said it had been decided in principle that the caretaker setup would be challenged in a superior court if the PPP and MQM tried to impose it on the nation without consulting the opposition parties.
He said the PPP and MQM were still coalition partners and were planning a massive rigging in the upcoming general election. He said both the parties were staging a drama and trying to misguide the people of Sindh. He said the drama of the two parties would be exposed in the coming few days, as the masses had realized that the ruling parties wanted to come into power again.
Nawaz Sharif said the resignations of MQM ministers and governor Sindh was just a drama and it was a preplanned script. He said the Governor Sindh left abroad and acting governor, who was also a PPP leader, signed the bill.
Nawaz Sharif, who also visited the residence of late Prof Ghafoor Ahmed for condolences, told media persons that Jamaat-e-Islami had also agreed to join the grand opposition alliance, while the JUI-F had already entered into an alliance with the PML-N.
Nawaz also welcomed Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayanis assurance of free and fair polls and smooth transfer of power and said now was the time for end to negative politics.
He said the rulers tried to delay the election and used Imran Khan and a religious leader returned from Canada but all their plans were foiled.
He declared that there would be a big question mark on the credibility of the ECP if election was not held in a free and fair manner.
The PML-N chief also visited the former speaker National Assembly Illahi Bux Soomro and offered condolences on the death of his son.
Responding to a question, Nawaz said negotiations with the Taliban were necessary if the nation wanted to see the rule of peace in the country.
With regard to the postponement of polls, he said nobody could dare postpone the election. God forbid, if it happened, the country would plunge into chaos, he feared.
He said committees had been formed, comprising members of all the three political parties, to solve issues and reach a consensus within the next week.
Nawaz said they wanted to change the system in Sindh and demanded that a governor appointed on political basis should be removed. He read out the different points which were agreed to mutually.
On the Karachi situation, he said it had been held hostage and no action was taken on the Supreme Courts order against the militant wings of political parties.
Had action been taken, Shahzeb would not have been murdered. On the question of an alliance with the Awami National Party proposed by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, he said it was a good sign and we want peace in the tribal areas and Karachi.

I being a PTI supporter and voter will request to PTI supporters not to abuse JI as JI was atleast not part of the 5-years massacre of Pakistani nation at the hands of central and four provincial govts.
I heard that Munawar Hassan himself did not want to align with PMLN but the Lahore-based powerful lobby (comprising of Liaqat Baloch,Fareed Paracha and Hafiz Salmat Butt) desperately wanted to have alliance with PMLN.

This alliance is good for allied parties because they can not defeat PPP single-handedly.
This alliance will deprive PPP of at least 10 seats of NA if alliance acts intelligently.

Geo PTI! Geo Imran Khan! vote for PTI is he best choice for Pakistanis.
