Hospital Chief suspended over poor sanitation
PESHAWAR, Sept 14: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered suspension of Medical Superintendent at Nasirullah Khan Babar Memorial Hospital on Kohat Road in Peshawar Dr Tariq over poor sanitation and cleanliness.
The orders were issued by the chief minister during a surprise visit to the hospital on Friday night.
The chief minister, who was accompanied by Speaker of the provincial assembly Asad Qaisar, Adviser to the Chief Minister Yasin Khalil and MPA Arif Yousaf, went to different parts of the hospital, including causality, medical ward, x-ray laboratory, operation theatre, according to a handout issued here on Saturday.
While ordering the suspension of the MS over poor performance and dereliction of duty, the chief minister said a hospital, which was in such a poor condition of cleanliness, couldn’t do any thing good for patients.
He said the MS was totally unaware of the government’s directives regarding reforms in health service outlets and the deadline set for the purpose.
On the absence of some members of the staff, especially sanitation staff, from the duty, Mr Khattak asked the administration to show the attendance register and other relevant record but the administration failed to produce them.
He put questions to the MS about the staff, treatment facilities and other administrative matters of the hospital but got unsatisfactory answers.
The chief minister said if the MS couldn’t efficiently manage the administrative affairs of the hospital or keep himself updated about the issues on the premises, then he had no justification to hold the post at all.
“You would better resign and do your private practice,” he told the MS.
Mr Khattak remained present on the premises for around two hours meeting patients and their attendants and learning about the facilities available to them.
The patients made several complaints to the chief minister, especially about unavailability of proper treatment facilities.
Mr Khattak spoke to the health secretary by the cellphone and directed him to ensure early improvement in the conditions of the hospital.
He ordered the top bosses of the hospital to come to his office along with all record, saying strict action will be taken against negligent or absent members of the staff.
Earlier, the chief minister along with provincial assembly Speaker Asad Qaisar and Adviser Yasin Khalil paid a surprise visit to Machni Gate police station.
He checked the attendance register, FIR register and other record and found them all to be up to date.
Mr Khattak expressed satisfaction with the overall performance of the police station.
He directed the in charge of the police station to remove unnecessary barriers and checkpost on Warsak Road to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
On the occasion, the adviser to the chief minister announced a cash prize of Rs10,000 for the staff of the police station for good performance.
