Israel has quietly started allowing Jewish prayers on the Temple Mount in recent months, in what would appear to be a major change to the status quo that has existed at the holy site since the Jewish state captured Jerusalem from Jordan during 1967’s Six Day War, according to a report Saturday.
Channel 12’s religious affairs reporter Yair Cherki filmed prayers at the site in recent days, as policemen — who in the past would eject any person suspected of prayer, and sometimes kicked people out for merely citing a biblical verse while speaking — passively looked on.
“For months now, every morning this unofficial prayer quorum has been praying on the Temple Mount,” Cherki said. The worshipers gather without prayer books, tefillin or any other symbols of prayer that could draw unwanted attention from Muslims at the compound that houses the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
But pray they do, with the cops turning a blind eye. The Islamic Waqf, which administers the compound, is aware of the situation and monitors them from a distance, but has so far not taken action, according to the report.
Cherki described the developments as “a revolution, unfolding quietly and gradually under the radar.”
The Temple Mount is the holiest place in Judaism, as the site of the biblical Temples. It is the site of the third-holiest shrine in Islam, the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Israel captured the Temple Mount and Jerusalem’s Old City in the Six Day War and extended sovereignty throughout Jerusalem. However, it allowed the Jordanian Waqf to continue to maintain religious authority atop the mount, where Jews are allowed to visit under numerous restrictions, but not to pray.

In recent years, Israeli public perception of the ban on Jewish prayer has shifted. Through the fruits of a long-term concerted PR campaign, now using updated jargon calling for freedom of religion and human rights, the previously fringe Temple Mount movement is increasingly mainstreamed.
But in the face of Palestinian claims that Israel seeks to change the status quo on the Mount that have intermittently caused flareups of violence in Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza, Jerusalem has long maintained that it is committed to the status established there over the past few decades and does not intend to change the accepted practices.
Channel 12 reported that beyond prayers, lengthy Torah lessons have been held on the Mount, again with the tacit approval of the police.

The report cited two main causes for the gradual change: the growing number of Jewish visitors to the site — a record 35,000 came in the year before the coronavirus struck — and productive contacts between some of the religious activists and police.
Religious activists have even set up a “Temple Mount Management” body that built a shaded hut at the entrance area leading to the Mount itself, with refreshments for visitors and a model of the ancient Jewish Temple.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the change in police policy on the Mount. Neither the Israel Police nor the Public Security Ministry that oversees the force provided any immediate response, though it seemed unlikely such action, with such explosive potential consequences, would be authorized without the knowledge of top officials.

In the past, attempts by Jews to pray at the site, even when quickly stopped by police, have sparked violence. So far though, the report said, the regular prayer sessions have been peaceful and have not led to unrest.
Asaf Fried, spokesman for an assortment of organizations active on the Mount, told the network: “The entrance area has been fixed up, there are no lines at the entrance… people go up to the Mount, there’s no Waqf following you. There’s a lot more room to breathe on Temple Mount.”

Channel 12’s Cherki stressed that this was still far from complete religious freedom for Jews on the Mount, noting that he was told by police not to film or interview people there, and, as a kipa wearer, to refrain from religious activity. But, on the ground, he says “the cops, in accordance with the new policy, look the other way.”
Some of the Temple Mount activitists welcome the change, while others say there’s still a long way to go.
“Unfortunately it’s not prayer, in the sense that a Jew who has been to a synagogue or at the Western Wall would call prayer,” says Arnon Segal, one of the activists. “It’s very quiet prayer. Often a person who sways more than is allowed or mumbles too loudly is interrupted.”
“Praise the Lord for what there is, and there’s a lot more to be done.”

Nothing against any religion which I hatch, but you certainly garner attention when you send wiki references regarding criticism on Christianity and how West got civilized as a result, yet would pounce upon anybody making commentary about the Jewish, which you don’t like.

I don't mind criticism of Christianity, Judaism, Islam. But hating / bashing Christians, Jews, Muslims with contempt is a big no no.

Not all traits of a religion and it’s believer are mutually exclusive. Seizure of a real estate by promulgating the belief that there once existed a Temple erected by genies, gremlins and pixies may be a religious obligation to one, is referenced to as occupation by others. Idée fixe of one with its religious deity is also what drives one to slay another who may chose to eat it. While for others, criticism of their prophet makes it a divine’s decree for them to avenge by death. Man through eons has perpetrated carnage, mayhem, rapes, genocide and decimation not cause it was his obsession, but a religious compulsion when so ever he felt his belief system faced existential crises.

Israel is facing same problem as India. In India Hindus claimed Muslim invaders built Babri Masjid on top of their most holy Ram Temple. Now SC in India has decided in their favor after long legal battle following demolition of Babri Masjid.
While in Israel Jews claim Muslim invaders built Dome of the Rock on top of their most holy site in Judaism (foundation stone). Hence in their view it is Muslims that are occupying their most holy site just like Hindus thought of Babri Masjid. Maybe in future Israeli court will rule in favor of Jews too just like Indian court ruled in favor of Hindus.

Very fragile defense that you opted to employ. If Egyptians emerge as a superpower tomorrow, would it vindicate their claim that Jewish people were once their slaves and the land they owned was under the realm of Pharaohs? Italy can claim the same about the entire Europe, since Romans ruled entire Europe and Middle East once, and must sure have erected structures which were later demolished and built over. Should Greeks have a claim over Pakistan just cause it was once Alexander’s realm? Bhuddism originated in what is today Taxila, with some of their most revered historic sites there. Must they make a claim on this real estate? Native Americans will then also be vindicated about their lamenting of the territorial occupation of North America by the White.
This is a chicken and egg nonsense. Spare me that. History is written and the rules are made by victors, is what’s the stark and only truth.

So Muslims today should just accept that since Jews, Hindus now have sovereignty on their lands, they can just take back what Muslim invaders took from Jews and Hindus in the past? Why cry foul and injustice now? Did they think of it when Muslims were sovereign on these lands and built mosques / domes on top of other religions holy sites after conquest?

There is an inherent flaw in your point which you keep on pressing over and over again. Demolishing a structure erected by whosoever never does the job, cause once the oppressed returns to power, it would do the same again. To that end, I also don't condone what Erdogan did with Haga Sofia in Turkey. But the point is that Jewish were not the first ever occupants of the real estate , called Israel. In fact no one in today’s 90 percent of the world was the original inhabitant of where one lives today. 100 percent of Muslim Palestinians converted from any one of so many local religions which predated Islam including Judaism. It’s comical when a blonde Jewish convert from Europe makes a claim over Palestine more than brown skinned Muslim who is the native to the land. Just like Jesus in Europe or Americas is blonde did not make the real real Jesus a Caucasian. That’s why rules are made and history is written by victors. I can safely postulate if South Korea was a superpower tomorrow, Jesus’s would be depicted as oriental in effigies the world over. So again, please spare me the egg and chicken tale.
