ISLAMABAD / WASHINGTON:
Pakistan has enlisted Frances support in persuading the United States to change its policy on drone strikes and covert operations inside its territory, sources said on Friday. The move came after it became clear that though Washington is willing to expand consultations with Islamabad over drone operations it is unlikely to announce sharp cuts in the number of such attacks.
Washington is also unlikely to accept suggestions that it should return to a Bush-era policy limiting the strikes to high-value militant targets, a US official said late Friday. [CIA chief] Leon Panetta has an obligation to protect the American people and he isnt going to call an end to any operations that support that objective, one US official said.
After this weeks meeting between Panetta and Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt Gen Ahmed Shuja Pasha, US officials said the CIAs willingness to increase consultation did not mean the United States had agreed to clear every drone strike with Pakistan. They also said that Washington was not interested in getting clearance for drone attacks.
Upon his return from Washington, Lt Gen Pasha made an unscheduled visit to France and Turkey. Later Pasha apprised Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani about his trips.
However, Major General Athar Abbas, director general of Inter-Services Press Relations, could not confirm or deny Gen Pashas visit to France.
But sources said in his meetings with French defence security officials Pasha discussed with them intelligence cooperation and the war in Afghanistan. The recent arrest of two French terror suspects in Pakistan was also discussed.
Sources said Pakistan wants France to support its case on US drone attacks which it claims were counterproductive as many civilians have been killed, prompting a backlash in the country.
The issue of US personnel levels in Pakistan was discussed during Pashas visit, one US official said. But US officials said many of the sharpest demands floated by the Pakistani sources were never raised by Pasha and that he and Panetta have a good personal rapport.
News reports before the Pasha-Panetta meeting said some Pakistani officials believed as many as 300 undeclared CIA operatives may be in Pakistan.
US officials say, in recent months, Pakistani authorities have used delays in issuing visas to slow the rotation into Pakistan of CIA operatives, US military trainers believed to number around 120 and State Department diplomats.
If the visa delays continue, one US official said, eventually they could cut into the numbers of US personnel conducting critical counter-terrorism operations in Pakistan.
But so far, a second US official said, the visa delays are not degrading US operations.

This lobbying of a kafir country shows how Zardari/Gilani/Malik clan is trapped in murder, money laundering, and other crimes that
US has enough on them to blackmail. The clan is neck deep in crimes and the nation is paying for their wrong doings.

I cant believe that Pak govt seeks lobby of another country to stop drone attacks. I dont see any logic in asking other to help stop drone attacks to protect our own country. Block the supply route to NATO, bring down few drones and watch the tamasha.

money laindering, chori, ghaban, jhoot, makkari, qatal, sharab naushi sey insaan ka zameer murda ho jaataa hai aur kafereen ghalib aa jatey hain

Agree with GM that we don't need anyone's permission or support to defend our own people. Just block the supply line the see American's beg for forgiveness!

Losers are not the choosers. Do not completely agree with GM as thats simply not possible due to our circumstances.actually that's what should exactly happen.

Now I have questions in mind so let me express.

How and why suddenly there is an effort to stop drone attacks and our agencies are concerned? Politicians and army sincerely concerned ? Don't think so.

Something big coming and things already out of agencies hands?

Why Pasha went to see CIA chief instead of diplomatic route? Army simply don't trust politicians or what?

Have they now realized what damage CIA has done in our country which army has also been partially responsible?

Nukes are next target?

CIA chief is responsible to protect their citizens and our chiefs has permitted to kill our citizens how can they negotiate now?

France turkey visits won't work, neither we can bring drones downs then what to do?

Americans already established their intel network in many parts of country and don't need ISI support any more. RD release was a huge mistake and proved another experience of mistrust on US authorities like Indians lollipop to restore cricket between two countries. Only thing we can do is arrest and throw agents out of country which is not going to be easy anyway.

Just don't understand how our politicians and army coordinate between serious issues?

Army tried to milk US throughout last few years through many ways but now thats also coming to an end.

US, UK and rest are in very bad shape (financially, politically and reputation) and this war is important for their survival. Look at al Qaida and taliban they managed to bring so called super powers to negotiations.

when US cannot win they turn to kill civilians. So thats we might see if our agencies take decisions and actions in the favor of our country.
