WIth detoriating situation in Iraq, corruption root cause of mis management! Iraqi parliament dissolved PM role al humdillah.
Iraq PM bids to end vice president and deputy PM roles -

Iraq's Prime Minister Haider al-Abbadi has issued a decree proposing the cancellation of the country's vice president positions and deputy PM role.

A statement on Sunday on the PM's Facebook page said that Abbadi will also investigate corruption, reappoint all senior officials based on professional rather than sectarian standards, and reduce the number of security personnel protecting senior officials in order to cut down on waste.

Analysis: Reforming Iraq's bureaucracy
Abbadi held a meeting on Friday evening with a number of experts and advisers to discuss the administrative and financial reforms in his new bid to tackle corruption in the country.

The decision to terminate the roles was approved by Abbadi's cabinet on Sunday, but still requires parliamentary approval.

Iraq's Deputy Prime Minister Bahaa al-Araji resigned shortly after Abbadi's proposal on Sunday, Iraq's state news reported.

Anti-government demonstrations persisted in several cities such as Basra, Baghdad, Nasriyah and Najaf in the past two weeks over poor living conditions, including electricity cuts and water quality.

Al Jazeera's Mohammed Jamjoom, reporting from Baghdad, said Abbadi's decision today sent shockwaves throughout the Iraqi government establishment.

Opinion: Twenty five years later, the Middle East looks the same

"It is not a surprise considering how much pressure the PM has been under from these mounting protests that have been growing in various cities throughout the country.

"Many activists have been calling on the government to end rampant corruption here in Iraq.

"All of the people we spoke to here say they want to see an end to rampant corruption, they want the return of basic services, they want electricity, they want to have air conditioning at a time when Iraq is experiencing a blazingly hot record heatwave and they want to have clean water," Jamjoom added.

'Big step towards tackling corruption'

Other points proposed by Abbadi include cancelling special privileges and expenses that were allocated to the three branches of the government, merging some ministries and slimming down others to improve services and cut down on expenses.

Wary Iraqis say US-led air strikes on ISIL not working
Mustafa Saadoun, one of the organisers of the recent protests in Baghdad and director of the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights, told Al Jazeera that a demonstration in support of Abbadi's proposal is expected on Sunday evening.

"If these decisions do go through they are certainly a new beginning for us, and a big step towards tackling and getting rid of corruption within the government," Saadoun said.

"For the past two weeks we have been protesting for change in the capital, and today we support the answer."

Yes but once Pakistan was at the same point in time serving under the British. We or the Muslim League fought elections under them. All things in due time. They will eventually get their independence as we did. For the time being they need to strengthen their institutions.

Democracy is unsuitable for many countries. European countries have high standards of education and a high level society and sense of social justice. Countries in the middle east where barely anyone goes to universities and half the people cannot read and believe in superstitions and personality cults, give them democracy and you will have Sharifs and Bhuttos and destroy the future of the kids of their grand kids. This is exactly why every each dictator in Pakistan's history has performed better than democrats.

Democracies endure. Dictatorships don't.

We will agree to disagree. For me the fight for democracy and the fight for independence is the same.

Study the history of the west prior to the birth of democracy. You will learn they were little different from us.

Iraqis stage massive protest in Baghdad demanding dissolution of parliament
mideast-iraq.jpg

Thousands of Iraqis braved the scorching summer heat to stage a huge protest in central Baghdad Friday, calling on Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to dissolve the parliament and sack corrupt government officials.

Security forces and riot police sealed off Iraq’s iconic Tahrir Square and searched anyone who entered the area, but tens of thousands of men, women and children thronged the sprawling square.

“In the name of religion, the thieves robbed us,” they chanted.

Men with the government-backed Popular Mobilization Forces, pulled up in trucks and handed out ice water bottles . Their gesture was welcomed by roaring shouts in support of the paramilitary force now fighting the Islamic State group.

Baha al-Araji, the Sadrist parliamentary chief, said in a statement on Monday that his bloc, loyal to the Shia Muslim leader Moqtada al-Sadr, wanted to "dissolve parliament and repeat elections".
