ALIGARH: [HI]Muslims in India are even less privileged than members of scheduled caste and scheduled tribes as they enjoy neither equity nor equality of opportunity, a noted British scholar claimed here today.
[/HI]
Delivering Sir Syed Memorial Lecture at Aligarh Muslim University here, Gordon Campbell, [HI]Professor of Renaissance Studies at Leicester University in UK, claimed that the condition of Muslims, especially in the field of education, had worsened "in the seven years since the Sachar Committee Report was published".
[/HI]
[HI]"Muslims have been marginalised and have limited access in the field of mainstream education and public sector employment in the country," said Campbell,[/HI] who is also the founding chairman of the Consortium of British Universities in Saudi Arabia.

He, however, lauded some recent initiatives in the sphere of education of Muslims, particularly AMU's decision "to establish centres of higher education in minority dominated areas of the country including Malappuram and Murshidabad".

He said, the establishment of these centres was a "bold initiative" taken by the university.

Referring to the policies followed by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, Campbell said some people attribute origins of the two nation theory, which ultimately
led to the creation of Pakistan, to him.

Stop making things up...:P...this is ISI propaganda only!

Yes Human behan this guy is a disguised ISI agent.

On a serious note, I am not in favour of the quota system either. I believe in the principle of equality of opportunity. This is the best way to get talented people who can work in a meritocracy. We should value merit irrespective of the persons background or faith for that matter.

We should able be to pursue what we want to be without discrimination and prejudice.

I am very optimistic about the future of Pakistan, with the rise of PTI and Imran. I think such parties need to do more to promote the ideology of Hazrat Allama Iqbal and Quaid E Azam.

agreed about the quota system...but when people employers, institutions etc discriminate, it looks attractive to some members of the society...In my opinion it is just there to give out a signal that we care for you too and isn't really beneficial...

I think we need to encourage enterprise and initiate policies which seek to help the establishment of SMEs (Small Medium size enterprises) this is probably the best way for growth and self development. We need to push our parties to address this area. People should have the opportunity to achieve their potential through sole trader businesses. This is one way we can address our employment issues.

sirf ISI kay baaray mein..:P

You see every Pakistani is born with a gene called ISI, there is no escape from this!
Unfortunately there is no anti-ISI gene to turn the love off. Some people have a mutation which causes considerable discomfort.

It is surprising that even an important discussion on Muslim education in India is diverted to Indo-Pak terrorism (ISI) issue.

I have seen many Indian Muslims prosper due to joining the mainstream availing the constitutional rights given to them, breaking away from religious taboos. No employer bothers what is religion or caste, as long as he/she is the best fit for the job.

" Indian Muslims have begun to beat the odds because they have realised the importance of education more than ever before. So far, they've been helped mostly by their own efforts. With understanding and support from the larger society, with effective implementation of the governments' schemes and policies, and with the removal of internal obstacles in the community, this revolution will surely gain momentum. Apart from transforming Muslim lives, this can impart tremendous new energy to India's development "

Although India is secular, I do agree that the Muslims of India are marginalized. Extensive efforts need to be undertaken to rectify this issue. There is no harm in admitting something thats wrong. Only after admission can one begin the process to correct a wrong.

Marginalized by Hindus ?

Muslims in India are marginalized by their wakf boards, Imams and the likes of Deobandi groups. Those Muslims who come out of this clutch, get into mainstream and prosper. The pity is that their wakf boards etc., do not allow constitutional rights reach poor Muslims citing Islamic principles and practices, just to keep them as a voting block
