LUDHIANA: A man who needed money to buy drugs allegedly offered his wife to seven of his friends who took turns to rape her and even clicked her nude pictures.

Dakha police have booked the seven accused under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code after conducting an inquiry following a complaint by the woman in June. The woman's husband has also been booked under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The accused, who are drug addicts as well, and the rape survivor belong to the same village. Police officials said in her police complaint to SSP (Ludhiana Rural) in June this year, the 22-year-old woman alleged that her husband, whom she married in 2011 and had a child from him, was addicted to drugs and took money from few youths in the same village to sustain his addiction and offered her to them in return.

Police added that the accused would also run domestic expenses from the same money. Police officials said the accused had taken lewd pictures while raping her and later started to blackmail her. They added that fed up with the sexual assault by the miscreants, the victim lodged a complaint with the police.

After getting a written complaint from 22-year-old woman, senior superintendent of police (Ludhiana Rural) marked an enquiry to deputy superintendent of police (detective (D)) Jagraon who after investigating the matter recommended lodging of a case against the accused.

Dakha Police have booked the accused under Section 376 (rape) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).

ASI Nagar Singh, acting SHO, said the accused are yet to be arrested and police have conducted raids to nab them. The grandfather of the rape survivor said his son (girls' father) had died 17 years old back. Her mother had also left her and married someone else. He added that after raising her, he got her married in 2011.T

TOP COMMENT

Couldnt stoop more low... This isnt criminal act, this is barbarism and these people should be prosecuted as such not as mere wrongs of society

Later he came to know that her granddaughter's husband was hooked to drugs. He added that he has heard that all the accused are drug addicts.

A family member of the victim said that the accused persons had also helped her husband after his brother suffered injuries in a road accident and wanted him to pay back. He added that her husband then offered his wife to them who raped her and took pictures as well.

On the evening of December 12, nine-year-old Naina (name changed), who was also playing outside her home in Baldeo area of Mathura district, was allegedly lured by 46-year-old Indrajeet alias 'Disco', her neighbour, with food. She was allegedly raped and strangled by the man so that she would not complain about the crime. The accused threw her body at a spot near a Yamuna expressway service lane.
In a little more than 11 months, eight districts of Agra police zone have reported close to 44 cases of rapes of minors. According to a CAG report tabled in UP assembly in August, in the period between 2010 and 2015, 59% of rape victims in the state were below 18 years of age.

Out of the total 11,487 cases of rape in Uttar Pradesh, 6,829 victims were minors, with most of them (6,020) between 11 and 18 years of age, while 809 were younger than 11 years. The report stated that in the state, out of 25,589 cases of assault on women with intent to outrage their modesty, 14,040 cases were filed by minor girls alone.
According to National Crime Records Bureau data, in 2015, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest number of rapes of minors (1,440), followed by Gujarat (1,115), West Bengal (1,106), Karnataka and Tamil Nadu (1,073 each).
In 97% of the cases in UP, the accused was known to the, with 623 of the accused being neighbours, while 310 were other known persons.

Speaking to TOI, Dr Dinesh Singh Rathore, psychologist and medical superintendent of Institute of Mental Health and Hospital of Agra said, "In the majority of rape cases where the survivor is a minor, the accused are close relatives, friends or neighbours. People who suffer poor self-esteem, frustration and have no feelings for others search for weak victims such as minors and target them. These offenders are not normal human beings. They are paedophiles."

Anita Rana, director of UP child line said, "In times such as today, parents should teach their children to say 'no'. They should make the kids aware of what is good and bad touch. If the child learns these things, if any known person or others approach them in future, the child's 'no' might make the offender think twice about committing the act."
Inspector general of police Navneet Sakera, in-charge and pioneer of UP's women helpline 1090, said, "The majority of sexual offenders are relatives of the victims and the fact is really sickening. I wonder if women and children are not safe at home, then where will they be safe in our society."

RAMPUR/NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan has kicked up a storm again, this time with remarks about the Indian Army that were on Wednesday condemned by the Bharatiya Janata Party, which urged the SP to "sack" him.

Addressing party activists in Rampur yesterday, the SP national general secretary referred to "shameful violent happenings" in places such as Kashmir, Tripura, Jharkhand and Bengal.

Khan said excesses by security forces had led to "women in some places chopping off the private parts of Army men".The BJP hit out at the SP leader, demanding that his party "sack" him for seeking to "divide the country" on religious lines.

"It has become a fashion in the country to demean the Indian Army in the name of freedom of speech and expression," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said in New Delhi, attacking the SP, Congress and the Left for "making statements against the Army".

While the Army protected the borders, the political parties were bent upon "showing it in a poor light", he said.Describing Khan's statement as "shameful", Patra said he was "a repeat offender" who politicised sensitive issues related to defence.

"He has yet again demeaned the Indian Army and I hope his party will sack him," the BJP leader said.Patra referred to the "valour" of the Army when it rescued people in the valley during the floods."Everyone across the globe respects the Indian Army, and because of it we have a vibrant democracy," Patra added.

"But Mr Khan is trying to create a narrative to divide the country on the basis of religion," Patra said, adding that it hit the morale of soldiers fighting cross-border terrorism.

Azam has often triggered controversy with his remarks on rape. He was quoted as telling a rape victim, "If you keep talking about the crime, how will you show your face to the world?".On another occasion, he said mobile phones were responsible for the rape of minors.
