760 schools that were destroyed in the devastating Earthquake of 2005 which were due for rehabilitation years ago are now being rebuilt by the current KP government which shall cost 8 Billion Rupees. Education for every child is the first and foremost priority of the KP government. Chairman Imran Khan take part in a symbolic ceremony at a girls school in Abbottabad to announce the rebuilding & reopening of these schools that have been shut for the past 11 years
Chairman Imran Khan & Atif Khan inaugurated a girls school in Abbotabad today as part of an initiative to rehabilitate 760 schools that were destroyed in the 2005 earthquake. Aptly dedicating the initiative to the children of KP, Imran Khan pointed out that these schools were ignored by successive governments despite an inpouring of funds through world donors for their rehabilitation. Abandoned by both ERRA and the federal government on premise of it not being their jurisdiction, the KP government was now allocating 8 billion of its own funds to rehabilitate these schools. Chairman Imran Khan said that only lifting literacy rates in Pakistan would mean real progress and left it to the public and opinion makers to judge whether we wanted to spend 8 billion to rehabilitate 760 schools or 200 billion on a single train project.
Adding on, KP education minister Atif Khan pointed out that good teachers made the basis of a good education system; he said currently 25000 teachers had been recruited In KP via the NTS system and their recruitment was non political and free of croneyism. He said systems like the Independent monitoring system were already bearing fruit in keeping checks and balances.
