He shoots himself in the foot by opening his mouth and then have to come out to clarify and defend his statements.
This guy can never become a good politicians because he is a horrible communicator. He can't convey his message effectively to the people or the media.
There was hope that he will learn to speak and communicate effectively but even after all those years he is usually lost when he sees microphones.
Even that kid who can't speak urdu conveys his message more effectively as he stays on message and not wander off and run his mouth like IK.

You are absolutely right but don't forget the power of paid media to create a hype around his words...
I understand but how many times you make the same mistake?
When you are in this position you have to be very careful in what comes out of your mouth.
What I don't understand is why does he have to be on the media all the time.
Even Pak Sir Zameen do better media management. At least they do press conferences and interviews once in a while but this guy even being a national level leader is available to talk to anyone anytime.

Yes, people with a decent political IQ know what he meant but that is not the question.
The point is that the game of politics - dirty as it may be and particularly a really really really dirty game in our country - and as a political leader when you speak you are not only speaking to your supporters rather to the whole world. That includes your opponents, your enemies, your detractors and more importantly the independents or the undecided voters and when you say things without thinking about the consequences and weighing your words before you speak then you set yourself up for attacks like that.
The damage was done because IK said what he said no matter what he meant. People can't read your mind or see inside your heart all they have is to see you utter those words. The point is why say things that can be taken by your opponents and put their twist on it. This is when every day he is accused of being the establishment boy.
This is just like the money to sami haq's maddarassah when people viewed him as a taliban sympathizer.
Politics is all about perceptions and when you are always playing defense then it leaves very little time to go on the offense.
He has already wasted so much time and with mistakes like these or self inflicted wounds he is making sure that he would not have a wider appeal except for his die-hard supporters.
