In pakistan every few years there are major floods and this has been occurring for centuries. Over the years man has learned that the only way to control floods is
a) build dams and barrages to monitor and control excess water
b) plant trees to reverse climate change and stop land slides
In the last 35 years pakistan has not built a single large dam or barrage. At the same time we have cut almost all forest cover in the country. As a result, floods are now an annual occurrence. During this time the following people were in government
Musharraf (8 years)
Nawaz shareef (8 years)
Zardari (5 years)
Benazir (5 years)
For the first time in 60+ years kpk govt has started a plantation drive but these trees will take 5-10 years to become large enough to reverse climate changes. On the other hand punjab government is deploying rejected coal plants which will cause heavy CO2 release and accelerate the climate change in the country. So effectively the net result will be big zero because while kpk is trying to reverse climate change, punjab is accelerating climate change.
In this situation, the only solution left is to build large dams but here federal government is the main hurdle. Nawaz sharif is taking 45 billion CPEC loan for useless projects like metro train instead of building dams. 1 large dam costs around $10 billion so if hussain nawaz takes 20% and mariam nawaz takes 20% commission even then pakistan can build 2 large dams.
However, these dams wont be completed in time for next election therefore that money is spent on metro train and other loss making projects. At the end pakistan will have 45 billion loan and some highways, a few coal plants and metro train. China will have guranteed return on the loan with interest, mariam and hussain nawaz will have more offshore companies and pakistanis will have more floods and more taxes.
