We need to do that. Religion should be universal. If you ever go to Turkey they are no less Muslims than us or if you check out Malaysia they don't go all anal on small things. Ideally, educated people yes, but deen has been a toy in the hands of the illiterate for too long. What if above the PhDs sit people like MBS in KSA who use religious power for achieving political ends? No voice of reason comes out of there whenever ijtehaad is needed. Al Azhar fills in the gap.
