I was thinking the same and this isn't the only time I am listening to this word on a Pakistani channel and have heard this word for at least a couple of time before this, on our TV channels.. So I think this word is replacing our own language...

I have been using this word since my childhood. It's an Urdu word as well. Hindi equivalent is gambhirta if I am not mistaken.

check out this word in urdu dictionary, you will find it.

Actually the word Gambhirta means "Seriousness" and a little search on this word has led me to many meanings of this words such as "Deep", "Intense", "Serious", "thoughtful". Also the word Gambhir is used along others words and each time it changes its meaning. such as "Gambhir vishay(not a laughing matter)" etc etc..

Don't know for sure but I don't think its an Urdu word and In Urdu we have words like "Shadeed", "mushkil", "pechida" etc which are used according to the situation and the word gambhir is a vast word which can be used for any of the above URDU words... for example "Yeh bohut gambhir masla hai", "yeh boht gambhir halaat hai" etc...

Maybe you are right. What I wanted to say that I have been using this word since my childhood. I belong to a Urdu speaking family. We use many words, pechida is the closest to this word.

By the way, Urdu is itself mixture of several languages. You will find words of Hindi, Persian, Arabic and now Urdu is adopting English words as well. Mostly, hindi words are used in Urdu..
