people may say that my opinions are biased since i support Altaf bhai and MQM and general raheel will be remembered in conducting operation against MQM and trying to break the party into numerous factions.
General Raheel has not been the first military leader to do this in recorded pakistan history, from general ayub to general yahya, general zia, general asif nawaz janjua, general musharraf, many generals have been known to lay siege to pakistani civilians and their political parties and organisations, starting from general yahya who tried to eliminate awami league and national awami party, general zia trying to eliminate PPP, general musharraf eliminating PMLN and general asif nawaz janjua and general raheel who tried to eliminate MQM, history is very ancient, but has always seen military interference in civilian matters in weakening the military confidence among the citizens.
when general raheel was seeing his end days, no one accept media touts were crying that his reign is coming to an end, and despite in his era he was projected as a messiah and jesus and many 'namaloom afrad' even erected banners in his glory and demanding to extend his tenure, no songs of glory were sung when he existed his power and authority to become a retired civilian like a common pakistani. and the reasons are pretty clear that even though he started his regins with good intentions, but his greed of power subdued him and he couldn't finish his tenure with big achievements.
just to give an example, zarb-e-azb operation was intiated and anti-terror laws were formulated to finish extremism from pakista and tall promises were made that terrorism will be eliminated, terrorists will all be rounded off and generally pakistani society will change with such revolutionary steps. But the end result as infront of everybody else, zarb-e-azb operation became highly controversial and not only military miserably failed to catch notable terrorists and bring law and order to the terrorist ridden areas and convince the media and general public the achievements of zarb-e-azb operation, it became source of frustration for people of FATA especially when their properties were demolished and started raising anger for un ending operation. three years have gone and general raheel failed to conclude the operation and restore peace.
not only failure to conclude zarb e azb operation made his tenure highly controversial but extremist and sectarian outfits got a new breathing space in the country. Many schedule 4 banned outfits were provided leniency, lal mosque cleric was freed in his era and lashkar e jhangvi won elections in jhang. anti-shia slogans were raised in islamabad and federal govt conducted meeting with prominant terrorists who have been declared as most wanted by united nations and USA. despite zarb e azb operation ISI was freely during terrorist attacks in pakistan for eg shah noorani attack, quetta police academy attack, sectarian outfits also killed amjad sabri.
The operation in Karachi which was to conducted to catch 'jet black' terorrists was successfully manuvered against political party and 67+ MQM workers were extra judicially killed in this process, the karachi operation also failed to conclude and not major convictions against any 'jet black' terrorists were achieved.
the era of general raheel and his team is marred by notorious media interference, and culminating the freedom of speech in the media, geo news came under wrath of army establishment and the international observers noted the subdued freedom of media in Pakistan.
62 terror outfits are active in Sindh according to the latest news report and 35 of the banned outfits which became inactive pre raheel shareef era efforts became active again despite ongoing karachi operation, 395 most wanted terroists active in karachi as of now.
the rise of extremism as a result of general raheel's favouable attitude in protecting their interests can be seen as ahmedia mosque attack in sahiwal.
general bilal as DG Rangers largely failed to curb street crimes and target killings and bhatta khori in karachi as they are on the rise again, lyari aman committee and gang war heads were not caught in his tenure, mayor of karachi was arrested without any charge and then released.
General Raheel's tenure also saw escalation of kashmir issue when banned terrorists outfits were encouraged to be sent to kashmir and escalate the situation there, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of innocent kashmiris both in india and pakistan. due to his controversial policy to increase confrontation with india, india retaliated with gun fire which resulted in many innocent pakistani deaths. this tensed situation and also increasing confrontation in Balochistan which was largely settled pre raheel's era isolated pakistan internationally and even the UN and the EU deplored pakistan military policies.
Before General Raheel the foreign policies, interior policies were handled by civilian government which was taken away by the military which was regarded by many as 'soft marshal law'. military started dictating the foreign and internal policies of pakistan.
In conclusion, general raheel's era saw escalating confrontation with many parties and organisations which increased tension in the country and the dishonest intention of karachi and zarb e azb operation resulted in making them flop operations with no result in the end, even though they did achieve little short term peace due to terrorists escaping else where to avoid the operation but dishonesty in not eliminating terrorism infact supporting several banned outfits restored confidence among banned organisations who came back alive and terorrism incidents started to rise in pakistan again. General Bajwa's inconfidence in the incompetent team selected by general raheel can be seen in drastic changes, all of general raheel's team members have been disposed off from their posts and reassigned to trivial jobs
general raheel and his team flopped badly and nobody was seen singing praises for him for his achievements in the general public even in the media and majority of pakistanis are happy with his retirement.
regards
