Yesterday's step by Nawaz Sharif to request General Raheel Sharif to become mediator and guarantor of the negotiation. With one stroke of genius Nawaz had lost on each and every ground. This is what happened when a dumb is given the responsibilities of the PM and have jokers for advisers.
The likes of two Khawajas, Pervaiz Rasheed and Ahsan Iqbal didn't realise the severity of the situation until yesterday morning. Their character is such that for them there are only two kinds of people exist in Pakistan. One kind is the one they can buy out, the second kind are those they can subjugate through force. But when facing people with iron clad will, they are clueless how to deal with issues. Even yesterday morning the two khawjas in the press conference were trying to tell fibs to the Pakistani people, without realising that their D day is nearing.
In the evening Sharifs panicked. The main reason for their panic was the demand of the FIR. They have delayed it until now by using their biggest tool, i.e. Punjab Police. In the process they have used up any resemblance of good will they had in the hearts and minds of Pakistanis, except their brainless supporters. Pakistanis understood that until Sharifs are in power, the justice could not be served in Muslim Town's killings.
Sharifs are so used to getting their way that the recent challenges by IK and TUQ has become as a big surprise for them. For example, they have become eligible for the elections repeatedly despite having huge bank defaults, a pre-requisite to contest in the elections. No thanks to the corrupt Pakistani judiciary who had always been a big tool of Sharifs over the decades. In any civilised country the phone conversation between Shahbaz Sharif and Justice Qayyum would have ended political careers of Sharifs forever and they would have been sent to the jail. But in corrupt Pakistan Shahbaz not only completed his last 5 years term as Chief Minister of Punjab and surprisingly both Sharifs got re-elected. Without a murmur from any of Pakistans stalwarts journalists. Every Pakistani knows the voices on the tape are definitely that of Qayyum and Shahbaz. Any technical analysis and post mortem could have easily proven that if there was rule of law in Pakistan and if there ever was a truthful journalists fraternity.
For decades now Sharifs are getting away without disclosing the correct income and paying taxes on it. Incomes which match their life styles, but once again you dont see any campaign in the media to make sure that Sharifs are disqualified to hold any office.
Sharifs understood long while back that Pakistani media is up for sale. They have used that understanding to buy out the journalists with hand outs and the media owners through the carrots of public advertisements.
The shameful thing is that Sharifs have used public money to buy all these favours, without facing any challenges, legal or social for decades.
When a family get so used to getting away with such serious criminal activities for decades, it comes as a nasty surprise to them when they are challenged in a manner that could not be handled with time tested methods.
Day before yesterday I revealed on the forum that Tonight Tariq Malik would be on ARY. Even though IK only mentioned Tariq would be talking to media soon, I knew from my sources that arrangements had been made for Tariq to talk to Mubashir. Until Sharifs were alerted and used their time tested tactics to silence Tariq by threatening his family in Pakistan. Tariq backed down from speaking to Mubashir. Mubashir as an emergency cover showed live interview with General Musharraf. General Musharraf was easy to contact and arrange because at the moment he sits in Karachi waiting for the outcome of his case.
Imran Khan and TUQ in their meeting with General Raheel have used these current examples to demonstrate that Sharifs cannot be trusted in power and their removal is a prime request for fair and independent investigations in Lahore incident and to unearth election rigging.
Imran also used the examples of Sharifs bribing the journalists with public money in the tune of staggering 220 million rupees. In yesterdays post meeting speech he gave the example of one chief of a Law Society in Punjab, who had 2.5 crores in cash stolen from his house.
To cut the long story short, yesterday in panic due to the threats of imminent further actions by both TUQ and IK, Nawaz did the most foolish thing to get the army involved in political process.
By doing so, he has completely destroyed all the options he could have used.
1- First option they had, which was a long hold wish of Sharifs and other PMLN leaders that they would prefer to be Siasi Shaheeds rather than resigning from PM and CM slots or dissolving the parliament and assemblies and calling new elections. Now that option is gone. They have invited the army themselves, they cannot blame anyone else.
2- They have lost the support and respect of all other political parties who had been trying to prop up PMLN in the national assembly and in the press. By not consulting anyone before approaching the army, they have shown their willingness and capacity to ignore their allies in the difficult circumstances. What would Achkazai do now? He had been Sharifs vocal supporter in recent days. Remember in the past he had been a victim of Sharifs betrayal along with Imran Khan, when Nawaz as usual ditched his allies and took part in 2008 elections. Results of Sharifs action could be seen from the statements of different parties heads yesterday, especially Bilawals curious twit BB hum sharminda hain.
3- IK and TUQ to sticking to their demands of Sharifs resignations after their meetings with General Raheel had diminished all the options for Sharifs except one, their resignations. They cannot even use the parliament or their political allies anymore for their support.
This afternoon, both PTI and PAT would increase the pressure on Sharifs. One news or speculations in the Pakistani media was that Nawaz already got the resignation of Shahbaz Sharif as bargaining chip. But that bargaining chip is no more valid after both IK and TUQ sticking to their demands of Nawaz resignation in their meetings with General Raheel.
Sharifs can delay the inevitable for a little while longer no doubt, but ultimately they have to resign. It is a certainty now both IK and TUQ wouldnt back down from their demands and the political impasse would continue.
In the end the military would intervene and demand that Sharifs resign. But after inviting the military themselves, the Sharifs have lost their chance to claim martyrdom.
Last time when Nawaz was removed under such circumstances he went to the courts and was restored by the courts. But this time, even that chance is gone. He cannot approach the courts to reinstate him after asking for Militarys intervention himself.
The game is truly up for Sharifs. It is the end of their politics of corruption and political victimisation. Politics of lies, deception and loot.
