: An official report available with The Express Tribune reveals some startling facts about power theft in the country.

The report maintains that power pilferage caused an Rs100 billion loss to the national exchequer in 2011-12, with Balochistan accounting for a mammoth 63.8% of the losses. Furthermore, it states that Punjab which has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction for bearing the brunt of load shedding has the best recovery ratio.

Sindh follows Balochistan in power theft with its recovery ratio as low as 30 to 50% during the last fiscal year. The Sukkur Electric Supply Company is a major casualty in the province with its recovery ratio at 50.9% against the Hyderabad Electric Supply Companys 69.1%.

Sindh is also the biggest defaulter of payments. The province owes over Rs50 billion in power bills.
Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P) follows suit in power theft with a recovery ratio of 17.5%. The ratio, however, has been improved by a relatively more efficient Peshawar Electric Supply Company during the last fiscal year.

Punjabs performance with regard to recovery of payments from consumers is stunning. Its power distribution companies maintained a recovery ratio of 95.8 to 98.5% in 2011-2012.

The provinces two major distribution companies Gujranwala Electric Supply Company and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company reported a recovery rate of 98.5% while the Multan Electric Supply Company, Lahore Electric Supply Company and Islamabad Electric Supply Company registered recovery rates of 97.2%, 96.1% and 95.8%, respectively.

Power theft poses a serious threat to the countrys power distribution system. The ongoing energy crisis is also a major bone of contention between the ruling party and other political parties and has been deliberated upon in different forums such as the Council of Common Interests and Public Accounts Committee meetings.

to app ko zarurat q mahsus ho rahe hai pakistan main reh ker, ap alag country banalo

this report is highly biased, talks about punjab only, its no secret that even the lowest of the cities in punjab is more developed than quetta, and its no secret which province gets most of the share of pakistani resources, its also no secret which province eats more gas and which province produces more gas

this rana guy is punjabi just reading his name

balochistan is not even 10% of pakistani population while punjab is 60%, balochistan is not becoming burden on pakistani economy with child production as punjab is, try to control the birth rate

My point is
why there is 18hrs loadsheading only in Punjab's cities (Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Lahore) while the recovery rate is 95.8-98.5%..???

There is max 3-5 hr loadsheading in Khi...Where is KESC recovery report...???

Got my point ?????

KESC like the member said is a private company nothing to do with the govt now, it produces its own electricity and what ever it gets from pays for it and these statistics are not true statistics, if they are quote statistics from the reliable sources from pepco wapda etc

you said punjab pays the electricity bills so i said, i think you should better try to separate your dear province as it is doing too much ehsan our others

Do you know how many houses in FATA has electricity? How much electricity is consumed by FATA?

What is your source that FATA electricity is free?
One o fmy friend killed somebody and seek refuge there in wazirestan for few months and he told me that nobody can ask them to pay electricity bills or road tax or duties on motors or tax on smuggle products.

Well first its true no custom duty on vehicles as long as they remain in Tribal area.
For electricity they have to pay the bills when they get Pakistan NIC/Passport which majority has. Apart from this they to pay for the installation of the infrastructure e.g. transformers from their own pocket. The total consumption of electricity in FATA will be less then Gujranwala while load shedding duration is much more then rest of Pakistan.
Some times no electricity for a weeks. Back when I was living used to take shower with cold water at freezing tempratures because no electricity.
