K-P govt urges businessmen to promote industrialisation

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shoukatullah Khan, while describing the atmosphere as highly business-friendly, has pushed entrepreneurs to invest in the conflict-stricken province to promote industrialisation, generate jobs and support governments efforts to strengthen the economy.

At the same time, he asked Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar to visit the province and review its economic situation.
Khan was speaking here on Thursday evening as chief guest at the 10th Business Excellence Awards, organised by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KPCCI), to recognise and reward business performance in 2012.
The government is conscious of the difficulties and aspirations of businessmen of the province. The federal finance minister should visit the provincial capital and hold consultations with the businessmen to address their apprehensions, the governor said.
Now, the situation is much different from the past and a number of investors from friendly countries have shown their willingness to invest in the province, he remarked.

Khan pointed out that the first industrial estate had been set up in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas and in less than three months, 90 out of 100 industrial plots were booked by investors in the first phase.

Responding to queries, the governor stressed that efforts would be made to ensure that banks did not hesitate in extending credit to the businessmen. At present, the businessmen say the Bank of Khyber is the only one that satiates their financing appetite.
He assured them that every potential forum would be taken on board to create conducive environment for promoting trade and business activities and encouraging investors.
