DUBAI: Najam Sethi, the chairman of Pakistan Super League, has emphasised that if fans want the PSL final to be held in Lahore, the PCB would honour their wish.
Questions have been raised on whether the PSL final will still be held in Lahore following a bomb blast in the city which claimed 13 lives on Monday.
"If the nation says the PSL final should be held in Lahore, despite the unwillingness of foreign players to come to Pakistan following today's tragedy, then the final will be held in Lahore with Pakistani players," Sethi said in a statement on Monday.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had earlier announced to host the final of PSL 2017 in Lahore on March 5.
Speaking on Geo News later tonight, Sethi asked the nation to advise him if the PSL final should be held in Lahore even if foreign players are not ready for it.
The question for Pakistanis is: if foreign players do not agree, should we have a PSL final in Lahore without foreign players? Najam Sethi asked.
The nation needs to tell us what they want. If they are determined that we have a PSL final in Lahore without foreign players, then that is what will happen.
He said that they would do their best to convince foreign players. If foreign players don't agree, we can go ahead and have the final with all-Pakistan teams.
But I am waiting for an answer from the nation, from cricket lovers and cricket fans, he said, adding, I want their advice.
'Some lobbies against promoting peaceful Pakistan'
Speaking further, Sethi said that the PCB was determined to hold the final in Lahore despite difficulties.
This [PSL] was a determination, and we were all on the same page. There were difficulties, the biggest of security, but we were hopeful of maintaining security.
Obviously, some lobbies will not want to promote a peace-loving Pakistan, the PSL chairman said, adding that some foreign associations did not cooperate with them earlier.
Speaking of the media's role in this regard, he said that it was the pulse of the people and that it was imperative that the entire nation is united at this moment.
If the opinion that reflects through the media is that the final should be in Lahore, then we will believe it to be the voice of the nation. This is a time for unity. We need to decide with one voice now.
I am ready, at any cost, for the PSL final to be held in Lahore. I am only waiting now for the nation to tell us what they want, he said.
