PESHAWAR: Jamaat-i-Islami has expressed its serious concern over the dropping of Fata reforms from the agenda of the federal cabinet meeting held recently and announced to observe black day on Feb 16 against it. It described Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his federal cabinet as a major hurdle to reforms in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas.
Speaking at a press conference at Peshawar Press Club on Friday, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa JI chief Mushtaq Ahmad Khan said that the point of Fata reforms was deliberately dropped from the federal cabinets agenda, which was tantamount to depriving people of the tribal regions of their fundamental rights.
He said that JI would also set up a protest camp outside the Governors House in Peshawar from Feb 16 to 28 to press for the Fata-KP merger so that the tribal people could get their due rights. He said that JI would participate in the sit-in on March 12 in Islamabad over the issue of Fatas merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and they would march on Islamabad in April if the demand for merger was not accepted by then. Flanked by JI deputy chief Sahibzada Haroonur Rashid, Fata chapter chief Sardar Khan and others, he said that the government was not sincere in bringing change in the tribal regions.
The JI leader also criticised the government for ignoring the small federating units in mega projects, saying it had launched mega projects such as Metro Bus and Orange Train in Punjab only. He said that the centre was reluctant to give a constitutional package to other areas, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PESHAWAR: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Sirajul Haq demanded on Friday that the federal government immediately implement reforms in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and conduct census there.
He rejected the government’s plan to merge Fata into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 10 years and said the merger should be initiated as soon as possible. The 10-year reform process seems to be fiction, he said.
The idea of reforms might be changed with the change of governments, he said, adding that the proposed reforms should be implemented immediately.
Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with representatives of the Fata Political Alliance (FPA), Mr Haq demanded census in the tribal areas forthwith, saying development was not possible without census.

Provincial chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, Fata chief Sahibzada Haroon Rasheed and general secretary Dr Munsif Khan, FPA president Nisar Mohmand, the Awami National Party’s Shah Hussain Shinwari and PPP’s Hazrat Wali Afridi attended the meeting.
The Jamaat chief demanded Fata’s merger into KP prior to the 2018 general elections so that the region has its seats in the provincial assembly.
He said the tribal people were not satisfied with the plan of Fata’s merger into KP in 10 years and they wanted the step to be taken immediately.
The JI chief said universities and colleges for women should be set up in Fata, adding that without education development was not possible in the tribal areas.
He said leaders of all political parties had reached a consensus that quota for the students of the tribal areas should be increased across the country.
He said that unrest had prevailed in Fata for years as the area had been used as a shield before and after the creation of Pakistan.
He said the people of the tribal areas had bravely defended the motherland whenever it was attacked by foreign forces.
He said millions of tribal people had been suffering as the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) had blocked their national identity cards. He asked the Nadra authorities to unblock the identity cards of the people living in Fata.

PESHAWAR: The Fata chapter of Jamaat-i-Islami has demanded of the federal government to announce a comprehensive financial package of Rs500 billion for rehabilitation of internally displaced persons and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in tribal areas.
The party also demanded immediate merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to enable the tribal people to take part in the 2018 general elections and play role for development of their areas.
Addressing a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Fata JI emir Sardar Khan said that roads, schools and other infrastructures were badly affected owing to prolonged militancy in the tribal areas. He said that tribal people were kept deprived of basic amenities by the successive governments.

Demands merger of tribal areas with KP before general elections

Flanked by Fata JI general secretary Mohammad Rafiq, Zarnoor Afridi, Dr Munsif Khan and Qari Abdul Habib, Mr Khan demanded of the government to announce Rs500 billion package for rehabilitation of affected people, rebuilding of roads and provision of health and education facilities to the tribal people.

The JI leader said that people of Fata were deprived of their basic rights to get access to Supreme Court and high court. Every decision was being imposed on them under black law of FCR, he added.
Mr Khan alleged that bureaucracy always hatched conspiracies to delay reforms in Fata and block its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He said that the conspiracies would no more work. He demanded of the government to abolish FCR in Fata and merge it with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before the next general elections.
The JI leader opposed the idea of holding referendum in Fata to ascertain whether tribal people wanted its merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or a separate entity. He claimed that about 71 per cent tribal people favoured merger Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mr Khan also demanded holding of population census and local bodies elections in Fata before 2018 general elections. He said that government must amend various articles regarding name of Fata. The name of Fata should be removed from the constitution, he added.
The JI leader said that his party would hold a tribal jirga in Peshawar on November 11 that would be addressed by Senator Sirajul Haq and elders belonging to different tribal regions.
Mr Khan also demanded establishment of Fata university, Fata medical college and upgradation of educational institutions in all tribal agencies. He asked for opening of all closed schools in Fata.
