Even though he has been aligned with PPP in the past he is as independent and principled person as they come in Pakistan. He is from the breed who are principled and pragmatic and due to his age would not be compromising much as he wouldn't have much at stake. Plus he is a consensus candidate. The main issue will be whether he will be able to hire deputies of his choice or he will be given sub-ordinates who would not be under his control.
