The additional district session judge Rawalpindi rejected MNA Ali Musa Gilanis application requesting the cancellation of his arrest warrant issued in the Ephedrine case, Express Newsreported on Monday.

Additional District Session Judge Muhammad Kaleem Khan rejected Gilanis application and kept arrest warrants against him intact. He also ordered the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to continue with the probe and also arrest the suspects involved in the case.

Gilanis lawyer Abdul Aziz, in the application, had maintained that his client became a part of the investigation thrice and no evidence had emerged against him. Terming it an act of political revenge, the lawyer requested that the arrest warrants be taken back.

During the proceedings, the ANF prosecutors said that they had found solid evidence against Gilani, but when he was requested to be a part of the investigation for the fourth time, he refused to do so. They added that his refusal led to the issue of his arrest warrants and teams have also been formed to carry out the arrest.

The case regarding the illegal sale of ephedrine was registered on October 10 last year, after two pharmaceutical companies were accused of obtaining export quotas for the drug in collusion with the health ministry officials that exceeded the limits fixed by the INCB.

Ali Musa Gilani, son of former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, has been named in the Supreme Court as the main accused in the multi-million-rupee scandal.
