Cyprus airport hijacking: EgyptAir flight lands at Larnaca Airport as emergency declared

A hijacked Egypt Air passenger plane has landed at Larnaca Airport in Cyprus, according to Cypriot media.

The hijackers took control of the plane at 8:30 local time (6.30 UK time) shortly after the EgyptAir flight from Alexandria had taken off.
The plane landed around 20 minutes later.

UPDATE: Egyptian media reports that there are 10 US citizens and 8 British citizens on board. There is speculation that there are multiple hijackers.
An Egyptian passenger airliner from Alexandria to Cairo, Egypt, has been hijacked by a suspect who said he was wearing a suicide belt, according to reports.

The plane has since been flown and landed in Cyprus. There were at least 81 people on board.
Egyptian Air confirmed the hijack on Twitter, saying, “Our flight MS181 is officially hijacked”
Once the plane landed in Cyprus, the hijacker began letting some women and children off of the plane.
