Ebola Transmissibility issue and politicians
Governments tend to minimize the scale and Ebola transmissibility issue for public relationing reason but such an action is unusual for donor or UN bodies . When Ebola outbreak took some toll of health workers in liberia and neighbouring countries , it was becoming clear that this outbreak virus has some unusual characteristics otherwise death in doctors and nurses despite close contact is an unusual event except in highly contagious diseases omitted diagnosis cases .
Normally this would have resulted in a close look at transmissibility issue as with such high death rate amongst doctors and nurses etc means that hospitals might simply close .
It was said in media that well that is due to poor health facility and technology in Africa . But when one nurse in Spain and one in USA contracted the disease recently that issue of transmissibility of virus is now being taken seriously but not seriously enough , what is being said is that protocol were violated in patient care , then someone suggested that usingdialysis ports and intubating might be culprit sites of transmission .
I had indicated much earlier in a previous ebola coverage of mine that Ebola patient care will not be possible under current protocols , this needs space suit like chambers distinct from similar high tech patient chambers with built in ICU type mobile structures . Ebola like Dengue control needs engineering inputs , simple protective suits will not suffice .
Medical doctors in the UK criticized governmental decisions to bring ebola patients to EU and treat them there as being too dangerous . A serious pressure is building for treating ebola in home territory and denying visas to west africans for a while .
Some developed countries are lifting some restrictions in immigration rules to allow doctors and nurses who wish to return temporarily to their native west africa to help in ebola control .
Butthe statement by one senior uk health official that UK will recieve a handful of cases was severely criticised as a political statement . Setting up questioning and screening centres for west african flights to uk was considered by medical and scientific community as cosmetic act and a dangerous solution .people are comtemplatin Quarantine centres outside western lands for passengers from west africa , a bit like they wer Set up a century back for plague .
Hopefully Ebola will die down but a case or two to enter Pakistan is quite possible in and big city hospitals should be ready for a cluster of cases in cities like karachi with too many flights .
Who knows the third nobel prize for Pakistan will be for engineer who designs the ebola doctor and patientself containedtreatment capsule or its medical treatment .
Last thing we need is some sanyasi , homeopath or spirtual healer or TUQ look. Alike claiming in papers he has concocted a potion or magic for it .
