The distribution of free textbooks to public sector schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been successfully completed. The supply of textbooks to schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for the academic year 2016-*17 was a big challenge because for the first time since 1971 have textbooks been printed through competitive processes in accordance with the KPPPRA Rules instead of quot-a /allocation system. On the one hand, the new system has brought transparency while on the other hand it has improved quality of textbooks.
Out of Rs.953 million for printing of books for 2016-17, Rs.455 million has been obtained by printers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which is 48% of total cost. The printing work was divided in 17 packages, out of which 7 were obtained by the printers from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The bidding system has enabled the Board to provide quality books more economically in comparison to the previous year. A certain section of the printers boycotted the process of open tendering and insisted on allocation system.
