330,000,000/525,941 = Rs 627 per invoice

bhai kiya punjab mein itne saste resturaunts hain ke average bill sirf RS 621 ha? mene tu suna tha ke punjabi buht khatay peetay hain.

In karachi mutton from butcher is 700/kg. is dafa koi ramzan deal 1500/head se kam nahi ha. yani ager sirf 3-4 logo ki family bahir khana khaye tu bill 5000 se uper banta ha.

clearly these restaurants are under invoicing and as usual punjab govt is sleeping. it seems punjab govt is helping restaurants evade taxes by showing only small amount.

This is how they work:

Part of sales tax evaded by renowned eatery recovered

LAHORE: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) on Friday recovered Rs35 million in sales tax from a renowned restaurant, which allegedly evaded the amount in the first nine months of current fiscal 2015-16.

Earlier, a PRA enforcement team had raided Gourmet Restaurant in Faisal Town last month and confiscated its sales record after verifying that it was misreporting its sales invoices and evading tax.

Gourmet, which has five restaurants and a large chain of bakeries and catering in the city as well as other parts of the country, is owned by a senior police officer of the deputy inspector generals rank and his family members.

Sources privy to the development told Dawn the restaurant which was connected with PRA through the Restaurant Invoice Monitoring System had paid Rs35 million initially and calculations of further outstanding amounts were under investigation.

They said though the Faisal Town branch generally witnessed sales between Rs25 million and Rs30 million a month, but the tax evaded appeared to be much more compared to other four of its branches.

The sources claimed the enforcement team ensured tax compliance from the company after hectic efforts despite pressure from the Chief Ministers Secretariat and top provincial bureaucrats to give undue favours to the restaurant. They further claimed this was the first time such a huge amount had been recovered from any restaurant in the city, adding the PRAs investigations were going on to calculate the outstanding tax amount from all five Gourmet restaurants.

Separately on Friday, a PRA special squad headed by an additional commissioner raided six other restaurants in the city on suspicion of sales tax evasion and deputed PRA staff there for monitoring of sales invoices.

The eateries that were raided were Howdy, Caf Backyard and Wings on M.M. Alam Road Gulberg; Maalga Namkeen, Al Nakhal Arabian Cuisine and Ravi in Johar Town.

Sources said the special squad constituted by the PRA chairperson would deal with other restaurants with an iron hand to tap sales tax evasion in the last two months of the current fiscal year.

Furthermore, PRA enforcement teams also visited 16 marriage halls and caterers across the city and seized sales record of a few of them for verifying gaps in tax submissions.

assuming GST = 17%, 627 tax equals average bill of 3688 exclusive of tax.

Assuming average table has 4 people the per head cost is only 922 rs exclusive of tax. These rates are like 10 year old because today even 1 large pizza from pizza hut costs more than 1000 rs.

Clearly the system is made to just monitor tax reporting. There is no way to counter-check how much the actual sales of the restaurant was and compare it to reported sale. This way govt has "legalised" underreporting for large restaurants.

this report confirms my suspicion. 35 million in 10 months by just 1 restaurant. so just 10 large restaurant's actual sales tax will be 350 million if they reported it correctly!!

All assumptions. Many would go to restaurant without accompanying with someone, many couples or family with one child would also visited there.
They also have started to give incentives for demanding pakki receipt or sales tax invoice, which will curb under-invoicing or under-reporting.

Pehlay tou kuch bhi tax nai aata tha, ab atleast kuch ana tou shuru hoa...
