As an engineer and a scientist, I can assure you guys that Laptop ( or chota compooter as said by Noora) is absolutely NOT necessary, not atleast in the way people in Pakistan think or perceive.
To come up with an innovation, you have to have an idea. and to have an idea, you have to have the knowledge and bases covered. Dr. Abdul Salam the only noble laureate we produced didnt have the laptop while he was studying in Jhung.
Laptops come at very late stages in a design cycle just to have a proof of concept . Here the situation is this that 3/4 girls in Pakistan do not even go to elementary school and Punjab government spends 0.5 Paisas ( YES 0.5 PAISAS) per student per year in Punjab. With no buildings, no teachers, no unified and god curriculum, no basic labs of sciences do you think Laptops are given to produce chankana?
I have been to the top universities of Pakistan with the most advanced and state-of the art computer labs. You wont even imagine the kind of equipment that is placed there , you wont find in US and Europe but what is happening there? Most of the people use Facebook, social networking sites and other such crap while people in developed countries produce products just due to their minds.
Instead of improving the quality of basic and elementary education in Pakistan, the Nalaiq league copied the concept of Laptop distribution as a bribe given to younger generation to buy votes and nothing else. If not anything, this will increase either facebook junkies or more porn viewers in that already deprived society of Pakistan.
