Deliberate attempt to create confusion over PTI stance on Malala

There seems to be a deliberate attempt in the media to create confusion in the minds of people over the stance of PTI on the Malala issue. Different issues are being mixed up. In this context the PTI leadership needs to come out very clearly on this issue and needs to clarify its stance as follows;

  • PTI categorically condemns the attempted murder of Malala Yousufzai and the perpetrators of this act should be brought to justice
  • Condemning drone attacks does not contradict the point above and does not justify the act. The war on terror is one of the causes of radicalisation of the society but this in no way justifies act of terrorism

I believe this is the official stance of PTI but it is not coming out clearly and the political rivals and media is capitalising on it.

PTI Spokesman, IK himself and Fozia Kasuri have already done all that, but media is still trying to create confusion on PTI stance.

Unfortunately we have again gone into the same debate between "liberals" on one side and the "conservative" on the other and the extremes among both. Those at the centre (like the PTI) will be pushed either side but the policy has been the same and I believe will remain so. I just think there should be more concreteness and may be this is the time to unveil the counter terrorism policy as well. I saw Dr. Arif Alvi give some concrete points as a framework for counter terrorism. Shafqat Mehmood's latest article is actually quite good and explains things really well.
