Defamation suit: Imran fails to appear before Lahore sessions court

LAHORE: A sessions court adjourned the case over Rs10 billion defamation suit against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairperson Imran Khan after the party chief failed to show up on Monday.

A hearing over the suit filed through Advocate Mustafa Ramday was scheduled. Ramday’s assistant was present in the court, but Imran was absent. Therefore, court issued a notice to the PTI chief and adjourned the hearing till September 9.

Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif filed a suit through his counsel, Mustafa Ramday, against Imran for alleging he was offered Rs10 billion by a close associate of the chief minister to drop to Panama case against Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The case was filed in the court of Lahore additional sessions judge Azfar Sultan under section 4 (defamation actionable) and 9 (remedies) of Defamation Ordinance, 2002. A response was sought from Imran by August 21.
