Comparison between the film industry of two Islamic countries

Iranian film industry

Iran is our neighbor country whose film industry is touching the peak of popularity. Their films have no vulgarity, nudity, sex and violent scenes and perhaps the only film industry in the world whose movies can be seen with entire family.

Pakistan film Industry

Now we see the industry of that country which was got and built on the name of Islam. Pakistanian Film Industry was somehow had been presenting good movies till the end of 60s. 70s was the era when films started showing vulgarity and violence which has been continued till the downfall of the industry. The actors like Sultan Rahi gave us "Badmash culture" "Gandaasa" "Bloodshed" and later we saw actor "Shan" performing the same kind of roles. Just look at the list of the movies, you will imagine yourself what is being shown on the name of entertainment

Badmah Gujjar, Billo Lahoria, Pappu Badmashaan da, Butt Badshah, Lahori Ghunda, Badmash 420, Jutt da wair, Ziddi Gujjar, Haseena zero meter.

After effects of such movies:- Once the real badmash was arrested in Gujranwala by the police and in his statement he said he started badmaashi after seeing the movies of Sultan Rahi.

I wish our Film Directors and Producers learn something from Iranian film industry whose sex, voilence and nudity free movies are seen in the west and get awards in International film festivals.

For your kind information Vulgarity and Violence started in 70s when there was no Zia-ul-Haq, Blame Yahya Khan and Bhutto instead of Zia-ul-Haq.

Turkish Film industry also contains sex and nudity material therefore that is not an ideal Muslim film industry to be considered.

immi khan idealizes turkey as a model..

im not talking abt vulgarity and violence.. im talking abt the maula jutt gujjar sorta movies.... even india produces many stupid mautla jutt type movies for a specefic audience.. but it has still hung on to its sane part... unlike pakistan where zia intervened with his stupid mindset and finished teh film industry....

We can lament the fact that we don't produce much quality art of any kind and not just the lack of any quality movies. Indians produce some great movies, the art movies as they call them, while Bollywood and their south Indian film Industry churn out formulaic boy meets girl musicals by the thousands - most are unbearable to watch. It has nothing to do with being Islamic/non-Islamic or good-Islamic/bad-Islamic - rather has everything to do with sheer talent for producing critically acclaimed movies as Iranians do. Genuine talent finds ways to circumvent some idiotic restrictions such as the ones enforced by the regime in Iran. Now on the other hand when you have pseudo talent as in our country then they always blame a mindless dictator like Zia for their substandard production and how they were limited since they were forced to put duppattas over the heads or stick to Islamicized code of conduct.

By the way I love Iranian movies.

Naach naa aai, aangan tehrraa......

p.s. this is in no way an endorsement of mindless miltary dictators in all of their forms (self-declared field-marshals-gora-wannabe types, the zealot-bzzarrely-decorated bandmaster types, the coward-commando-types-with fake-funjabi accents)

I have not watched one on the internet in a while - so don't know whats available but you can search for Mohsin Makhmalbaf, Majid Majdi, Abbas kiarostumi, Asghar Farhadi's movies. The separation which won the oscar last year or the year before was pretty good. The white balloon, Color of paradise, Children of heaven, A time for drunken horses etc are some decent ones that I can think of from the top of my head but there are many others - depends on what you like.

I don't know if you know it or not Indian films are still quite popular in Iran. Many Iranian artists and directors visit India. The legendary Iranian film maker Mohsen Makhmalbaf is planing to make a film in India with Iranian cast. Almost all Indian films are available in DVDs in Iran along with the appropriate posters of Indian actors and actresses.

You are right Iranians make good films as well and they have a great film watching culture in Iran.

Well, there is always an audience for the boy meets girl song and dance mixed with overly emotional and dramatic movies. We were talking about the real movies :-) India makes the real ones too but they don't get much mention. If Makhmalbaf is coming to India to make a movie then good for you - I believe he figured that he would get some good facilities at a reasonable cost.

True that.

Its not the question of real movies. Any movie is a real movie that can entertain you for couple of hours. In a film watching culture there is a variety of audiences with multiple tastes. I can't stand Don films India makes but love Hollywood Don films. I watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and liked it but I loved the Indian version of it " Satay pey Sata " a whole lot. So here you go. I think Pakistan has lost the Movie going culture as a result movie making culture as well. I have heard there were over a thousand cinema halls in Pakistan at one time.
