ISLAMABAD: A 12-member parliamentary committee, headed by federal minister Syed Khurshid Shah, reached consensus on Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim’s name out of six nominees as the head of the Election Commission of Pakistan, Express News reported on Monday.
Ebrahim was one of the three names nominated by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). Justice (retd) Nasim Sikander and acting CEC Justice Shakirullah Jan were the other two nominated by the party.
The government had recommended Justice (retd) Munir A Sheikh, Justice (retd) Amirulmulk Mengal and Justice (retd) Qurban Ali.
Justice Ebrahim’s selection documents will be forwarded to Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.

Note: I Know he is a "consensus" candidate. And PML N and PPP have agreed on his name. Even PTI raised no Objections. But In my opinion he is biased candidate and will allow prepoll rigging and let the ruling Coalition get away with Murder.

Unlike Shakirullah Jan he will not ( and much like ECP Justice (retd) Hamid Ali Mirza ) he will not get the list ready in time and may even Gerrymander constituencies.
Mark my words this was a big win for PPP. This guy is a partisan hack. PPP may have just won the elections.

Its strictly my opinion but I dont trust this guy at all. I will list my reason in another post.

Well PTI wouldn't have agreed to this if there was even a slight expectation of his being biased. You know it would be like shooting themselves in the foot. Let's see what PTI reaction to this is...

ISLAMABAD:The Parliamentary Committee on Appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner(CEC) on Monday developed consensus on the name of Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G.Ebrahim for the position of the CEC, Dawn News reported.
Speakingto media representatives, Khursheed Shah, head of thebipartisan parliamentary committee, confirmed that Ebrahims namehad been agreed upon for recommendation for the CEC post.
Shahsaid any fears regarding rigging in elections should no longer hold merit,adding that, ninety per cent of the work pertaining to implementation of theCharter of Democracy (CoD) had been completed.
Ebrahimsname had been proposed by the Pakistan MuslimLeague-Nawaz (PML-N) in May.
ThePML-N had proposed the names of Justice Shakirullah Jan, Justice (retd)Fakharuddin G. Ebrahim and Justice (retd) Nasir Aslam Zahid for the post. Thegovernment had proposed the names of Justice (retd) Munir A. Sheikh, Justice(retd) Amirul Mulk Mengal and Justice (retd) Zahid Qurban Alvi.

Fakhru ji is a well reputed man, a man with great integrity, his selection through this committee is a miracle in itself. I hope he accepts this challenge and delivers good.

Multiple sources seems to confirm this news that he MAY be the one chosen for this job. Its hard to say if he can ensure a free and fair elections. Some people are clearing discussing some previous statements which shows little tilt towards PPP...and on the other hand another question would be if he has enough powerful personality to ensure free elections.

I saw him in one of the talk shows where he was criticizing Chief justice's decision about sacking yusuf raza gilani and abt writing a letter to swiss court.. may be zardari saw tht program as well and thts why he was rewarded..

Is Fakhru really neutral?
Consider the Following:

1.He was AG of ZAB. In his time ZAB used government machinery to crush the opposition. Murdering dozens of his opponents.Shutting down Dozens of papaers. Crushing Baloch leadership and the NAP leadership(Hyderabad Tribunal). FSF thugs roughed up any opponents. Finally rigginf 1977 election. Ofcourse none of this pricked Fakhru concionce. Infact ZAB to pack the courts appointed him Adhoc SC judge. Yes fromAG to Judge in one go.He was a close legal advisor to ZAB through out his rule.

2.Then his life greatest accomplishment not taking the oath under PCO. Well credit where its due but to me its only Namak Halal karana. He returned to his very lucrative Law Practise and didnt actually lose anything.

3.He was richly awarded for his "Sacrifice". He served Governor of Sindh, Law minister and Justice minister during PPP terms.

4. Though initially projudiciary when the PPP decided to destroy the movement he went along. The whole sale buying by Babar Awan and co and blatant rigging by Friends group did not concern him. His position on all Judicary issues closely match Asma Jehanghir. Infact all so called leaders defected to the PPP on hearing Zardari dog whistle Aitizaz, Munir,Kurd. All were considered neutral before. FGI is no diffrent.

5.Recently as tension against judiciary increased after the botched Riaz Bahria Scheme. Fakhru couldn't contain himself and showed his true colours. Yes yes sure Parliment is Supreme...Zardari Told me...Speaker can make laws Herp Derp

6. Fakhru also must be the world worst Ombudsmen. He decided to put his reputation behind Express Group (Owned by Pro ppp Lakhani and Co of the Lakson Tobaaco fame).
Express regularly published Photshopped picture of PPP jalsas. Partakes in charector assassination insinuation and Gossip mongering. It chock full of errors in every issue. Involved in spreading Sectarian hate. By far one of the worst editorial standards for any English Newspaper in Pakistan. Lakson tobacco is for the second time pushing poison on Pakistanis.(Well third given its sells Junk food via its lucrative McDonald Franchise).
Ombudson Saheb is least concerened. CEC post is also an Ombudsman of sorts. By his performance at ET we can only expect the worst.

7. Fakhru Bhai also is a frequent Visitor of presidency. Infact along with Aitizaz and Shareefudin Peerzada he was Zardari closes advisors in how to handle the NRO situation.

As far as Zardari’s contacts with leading lawyers on the NRO issue are concerned, Pirzada was second in the row after Farkhruddin G Ibrahim lovingly called Fakhru Bhai. Aitzaz Ahsan was touched as a third option, the sources privy to the consultation mission, disclosed. Presidential spokesman denied Zardari’s meetings with Pirzada and Fakhru Bhai, let alone the consultation with them on NRO and appointment issues.

It was Fakhru bhai’s advice that the “NRO is indefensible.” He met twice-before and after Pirzada’s meeting with Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani was also present. Fakhru bhai was the man who drafted a statement submitted to the court by the then acting attorney general, Shah Khawer, saying the government wouldn’t defend the case. In the space of his two meetings, he wrote this, sent it to the Chairman Senate Farooq Naek, who passed it on to the acting attorney general. Fakhru bhai refused to divulge details of his meetings and about the draft though he confirmed, he met the President.

Sure the Advice was sane but why should we pretend he is anything but a PPP Jiyala.

7. Fakhru Bhai also is a favourite of HRCP(PR Dept for Asma Jehanghir). Recently when Asma paranoia got to her and she felt she may be threatened by ISI.

Fakhru jumped with his reputation in line to squarely condemn ISI though the charge was ridiculous. He didnt even feel the need that the reports should be looked into. He directly accused the Army of planing to liquidate Asma. It turned out to be based on something someone said on twitter.I.e another # Bongislike asma.

In Short in this point in History a Neutral CEC was absolutely vital. Fakhru Bhai maybe a good man but we cant pretend he is neutral by any strech of the Imagination. I think Zardari has outsmarted both PTI and PML N ( more probably mukmuka of the latter). We should prepare for the worst.
