Projects in Iran, Pakistan can complement each other: China

BEIJING: China does not see the recent move by Iran in collaboration with Afghanistan, and with financial support from India, to develop the port and road network at Chabahar for expanding regional trade as an attempt to undermine the Gwadar port project or the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). In fact, Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang is convinced that the projects have the potential to complement each other in boosting the otherwise sluggish economies of the region.

In an interaction with a group of Asian newspaper editors, Premier Li said the economic crises in Asia as well as in the rest of the world could be countered by encouraging and supporting each of the regional countries in taking effective measures.

Rejecting the notion that the Chabahar project could be an irritant to China’s ambitious ‘one belt, one road’ project that plans to connect over two dozen countries for the purpose of trade, he said Beijing might even like to benefit from it. “And I think other countries should also consider doing the same,” he said, because economic progress in the region could only come through mutual understanding of “our shared goals and objectives”.

The Chabahar project has lately been a topic of intense discussion in Pakistan, where some believe it is in response to CPEC, and a few have gone to the extent of declaring it a security threat to Pakistan.

During the meeting, the discussion largely focused on China being perceived by many as the new ‘superpower’ and a ‘regional bully’ vis-a-vis its stated policy on the South China Sea controversy, and conflicts with some of the ASEAN and other regional states.

Premier Li not only denied this impression, he was quite categorical in stating that China did not have any such ambitions. “There are no grounds for China to become a superpower, and neither does China have the ambition to become one.”

While downplaying the widely held view that China wanted soon to take centre stage as an economic powerhouse and a superpower, Mr Li expressed the view that his country had a long way to go to realise the goals of modernisation.

He went on to say that even if China did achieve modernisation in the coming decades, Beijing would not seek hegemony, and nor would it bully any country, however small that country was in terms of population or landmass.

He did admit that differences existed on certain issues between China and some of the regional countries, but said none of them were serious enough to be a cause of concern. “Just as a person might accidentally bite his lips, it is only natural that neighbours will have differences,” he said. “But the key is to address such issues in a calm and diplomatic way.

“The common interests among China and its neighbours are way greater than disparities, and we can always optimise the common interests and better manage our differences.”

اب یہ کوئی نہ پوچھے کہ ہم نے اس کی طرف پیٹھ کی کیوں کر رکھی تھی۔ چاہ بہار بندرگاہ کی بے وقت تعمیر کی وجہ سے ہم پہلے ہی ڈھیروں پریشان ہیں۔

او بھئی سخت گرمی ہے کیوں کھپ ڈال ڈال کر ہلکان ہو رہے ہو۔ پڑھے لکھے لوگوں نے باقاعدہ یہاں اعد و شمار اور جیوگرافک منظر کشی کر کے متعدد بار لکھ بول کر بتایا ہے کہ چاہ بہار بندرگاہ کی تعمیر سے پاکستان کے چن کو بھی ٹھنڈ نہیں البتہ کچھ حاسد فرقہ پرست سعودی پالتؤں کی گرہ میں بہت زور کی خارش ہو رہی ہے جسے سکون پہنچانے کے لیے وقت ہے نہ سامان۔ اب ان سے کوئی پوچھے کہ سعودیہ، دبئی، ابوظہبی، عمان، قطر، کویت جیسے کتنے ہی برادر اسلامی ملک انڈینز سے بھرے پڑے ہیں۔ ٹیکسی ڈرائیوروں سے لے کر یہ اوپر بڑی بڑی ایگزیکٹو پوسٹوں تک رنگ برنگی بول۔ چال، کھال والے بھارتیوں کی بھر مار ہے لیکن اس سے پاکستان کو اپنی پشت میں کوئی خنجر گھسا نظر نہیں آتا کہ ایسا کر کے برادر اسلامی ممالک پاکستان کے ازلی دشمن ہندؤں کی اکانمی مظبوط۔ کر رہے ہیں۔
ایسی بیوقوفانہ سوچ آئے بھی کیوں۔ انہیں جہاں سے بہتر ہنرمند لوگ ارزاں نرخوں پر دستیاب ہیں لے رہے، ہم بھی کسی جوگے ہوتے تو یہی کرتے۔

ایک اور مثال: کالا باغ ڈیم ہم نے پچھلی صدی میں بنانا تھا، نہیں بنایا، کالا باغ کیا ہم نے کوئی بھی قابل ذکر نیا ڈیم نہیں بنایا انڈیا نے اسی دوران میں تیس چالیس خنجر ڈیموں کی شکل میں ہماری کمر میں گھونپ دیے۔ اب کسی کو جا کر یہ خنجر دکھاؤ تو وہ اسی پیٹھ پر بچی خالی جگہ پر ایک لات رسید کر کے جو کہے گا وہ آپ کو بھی پتہ ہے۔

لہذا بہتر رستہ یہی ہے کہ فری مارکیٹ اکانومی میں آپ اپنی پراڈکٹ لا کر اپنے حریف سے مقابلہ کرو۔ سعودیہ ایران اور دوسرے برادر اسلامی ممالک پر تکیے نہ کرو، یہ برادران یوسف ہیں۔

Pindi boys are well aware that CPEC will secure their whole western half of Pakistan, and China will keep an intelligence eye on the whole world to protect that part. We have the road and infrastructure, if Gawadar is fully packed and can't handle the load or due to any technical reason our port cannot be used i.e; maintenance etc as seedasada pointed out, we can use their port. So even in that case it will be more beneficial to us.

Endia has nothing to do here, even if they build a road from Chabahar to Kabul out of jealousy the only trade will be "Opium" and "Naswar".

you do realise Pakistan earns hundreds of millions of dollars each year from Afghan transit trade, right?

you also realise that Pakistan can earn almost a billion each year for transit fees for India-Afghan trade through Pakistan right?

thanks to Chahbahar, Pakistan will lose a lot of transit fees and revenues for trade, especially coming from India to Afghanistan, by simply bypassing Pakistan.

You should also realise that Chahbahar offers a DIRECT route to Central Asian Republics to open seas without even needing to go through Afghanistan or Pakistan

Total population of Afghanistan is 30.5 million whereas chinese trade through Gawader will be for people more 1000 million population.

China wants the access to Middle East, Europe and Africa and China has already access to central asia due to its sharing borders............

Iran as sovereign state has every right to do inside its border as we Pakistani have..........

Agreed, And I think it will be the other way around. It is being reported that Chahbahar port can only do limited trade, so the overload will surely flow to Gawadar, if there is indeed any over load ever. Also it is said that Chabahar is not deep sea port so even for India the Cheaper route will be through Gawadar, but it is only building Chahbahar as a second option in case Pakistan ever try to disrupt its trade with Afghanistan/Iran.

I also think that Pakistan is not showing reservation over its creation, but showing reservation over the intentions of India, but then again I would say that we must internally make ourselves stronger than to blame others. Because we know that Israel and Us were biggest enemies of Iran, but Iran internally was so strong that they even downed their Drones..

I dont think so...........Iranis are clever enough..............
They will not make a friendly country an enemy...........................
We need to guard our border even with China as well as it is our duty...........................

Iran just want to take its portion from Indian Market which will be available to them even they do not have friendly relations with India.
