By-poll massively rigged: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD Chairman Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf Imran Khan while alleging the Punjab government for rigging the by-elections of PP-160 on Thursday said the state machinery was used to win the elections.
Talking to TheNation, he said the PTI had already found 14,000 bogus votes in the electoral lists which were handed over to the Election Commission of Pakistan and a Returning Officer was also caught red handed while stamping on PML-N election logo Lion.
He said that during the investigation of the said officer, the police also confiscated the ballot papers of NA-123, which proved that they had also rigged the by-elections of that constituency. Imran further said that the Punjab government also allocated the development funds of Rs 13 million for PP-160 to win the voters sympathy.
It is really shameful that the government of Punjab has rigged the elections for a famous land grabber of the city. An Inspector of Punjab Police in plain clothes was appointed Polling Agent by the PML-N candidate while patwaries also played a role in rigging for the provincial government, the PTI Chairman alleged.
It is to be mentioned here that Zaheer Abbas was the ticket holder of PTI for the by-election of PP-160 while Saiful Malook was a the PML-N ticket holder. According to some media reports, the real contest remained between PML-N and PTI on the election day while some of the polling stations were also closed down for some time to avert any untoward situation besides the police also baton-charged a number of political workers and voters on some polling stations.

Only independent EC can save democracy: Imran


Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan said that Nawaz Sharif should start revolution from himself. He said that democracy’s survival is related to independent Election Commission (EC). Talking to media in Lahore, he said that his party could have won the by-polls in PP-160 if there was a free election commission. He blamed rigging in the elections as the main reason of his candidate’s defeat. He said that transparent elections are impossible in present set-up.
