Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf has ordered PTA to block video sharing website Youtube once again after it was briefly restored on Saturday.


The decision to block Youtube was made after the clips of the anti-Islam film could still be viewed on the website.

According to the PTA all Internet Service Providers (ISPs)had blocked the website.

Earlier on Saturday, PTA lifted the ban on Youtube.

In a tweet last night, Interior Minister Rehman Malik said Youtube would be restored within 24 hours. “There was a great demand to unblock Youtube,” Malik tweeted.

The video sharing website had been blocked after violent protests over the posting of an anti-Islam film.

Speaking to Geo News, DG PTA said talks were underway with Google to remove blasphemous content from Youtube.
Prior to this, Youtube has been blocked in Pakistan in 2008 and 2010

You can not bring down a library if there are a couple of objectionable books in it. Youtube was a great learning source. It has been blocked and deprived the people of free education. The content should be blocked but blocked the whole website is not the solutions.

Really, by blocking YouTube you cannot bring the clips down. Why not block the IP shields and IP hiding proxy software too. This is stupid strategy, similar to block the Mobile services on sensitive days.

but we muslims should not just record our protest for this shameful act but we should punish them too ...you know how much they are suffering when millions of pakistanies are not using Youtube ?? think about it ...considering that internet and knowledge and free education is not just about youtube...

The gov can easily ask youtube to block the objectional videos in Pakistan only without blocking the entire sight.

Saudi Arabai, Jordan have already done this. You tube ban has nothing to do with the objectional videos.
