Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to establish 2 mega-cities
PESHAWAR The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to build two mega-cities meeting international standards near the M1 Motorway, officials said.
"The proposed cities will be established near Swabi and Abbottabad to provide modern residential facilities to the public ... at affordable prices," Rafaqatullah Babar, chairman of the KP Investment Cell, told Central Asia Online August 23.
The project, with an estimated Rs. 85.8 billion (US $830m) price tag, will be built on about 5,000 acres of land in about three years, he said.
The mega-cities will have all modern facilities, including their own schools, medical complexes, five-star hotels, commercial zones, police stations, mosques, apartments and golf courses, he said.
The combined population is expected to exceed 602,000, he said.
The only major city in KP currently is Peshawar, which has a population of about 3.5m.
