LONDON: A prominent Baloch leader said that the future of Afghanistan and Balochistan are immutably interlinked and withdrawal of the western forces from Afghanistan will have deep impact upon the both.
While addressing to representatives of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and European Union (EU) in Brussels at an event organised by the Balochistan House, Mehran Marri, Baloch representative at the UNHRC, feared that radicalism and extra-judicial killings would increase once the western forces withdraw in the months ahead. He said that international community had been silent over the killings of innocent civilians in Balochistan and has failed to stand up for human rights and basic freedoms of a besieged people.
Mehran Marri told the gathering that Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah has pleaded for Balochistans independence under the special status of Kalat which it had under the Treaty of 1876 signed between the British Empire and the Kalat state and was the fundamental treaty for determining the Anglo-Baloch relations until 1947.
