The problems will bhaniyas is they think too much. If they failed to make Tejas Hal in last previous 30 years, they now failed to purchase required 136 units / aircrafts ! Now they also want make in India blueprints from France, like as if France is obliged to give away trade secrets why dont France give Egypt who purchased on original premium price? Or any GCC country?
By the time they approve, hopefully country as Pakistan will finalize stealth technology or J-10s.

French economy is trembling since last couple of years, and may fall faint in next 1-2 years.

With this cash, Dassault may keep its industrial units in running condition at the moment.

And for price, if India could have waited for 6-8 months, Dassault would have agreed on even $7b.
But Dassault thought

This is BAD for Pakistan.

When Lockheed is dying for Indians to buy its F-16s and Boeing is all desperate for Indians to buy its F-18 Super Hornet through the Secretary of Defense , than its a worrisome point for Pakistan and other neighbors of India.

The Rafale is a VERY expensive plane that is the biggest issue with it. however Pakistan needs to really visit its defence doctrine and come up with a solution.

Pakistan has a limited defence budget in comparison to India. We should not be worried if they mature this deal with Dassault for Rafale fighter jets. Its a twin engine aircraft with AESA radar and advanced electronic warfare systems, but it is also heavier as compared to JF-17 Thunder. It may have two afterburner turbofan engines of the same thrust as a single RD-93 engine of JF-17, but its empty weight of more than 10,000kg as compared to JF-17's weight of around 6,000kg does not give it much advantage when it comes to maneuverability and attack capabilities. It is double the intended production cost of a JF-17 Block 3. So, let the neighbors spend more. Let the westerns invest in our neighborhood more. Eventually it is in our benefit. Our lifeline is Economic Corridor. Once it is completed, any aggressor from our east will have to look north before materializing their thoughts; and if we are threatened from any direction, our sight will be focused towards out south east. That's where the world's interests are.

[h=1]Why does Pakistan need F-16 S to fight Taliban?[/h]
Rajat Pandit, TNN Jan 17, 2010, 10.15am IST

Pranab Mukherjee is not given to sudden public outbursts on foreign policy matters. But just over five years ago, he angrily tore apart the American argument that the weapons it was supplying to Pakistan were meant to fight the al-Qaida and Taliban. "Nobody uses F-16 fighter planes and other weapons meant for big wars to fight terrorists," Mukherjee, then defence minister, thundered. Uncharacteristic though the outburst was, it conveyed India's grave concerns on the matter.
Little, however, has changed since then. Pakistan continues to get sophisticated weapon systems, missiles, sensors and related equipment from the US, the majority of which are clearly meant more for waging conventional wars rather than combating militants.

pixel.gif

In the name of the 'global war on terror' since 9/11, Indian experts say, Washington has funnelled well over $10 billion in military aid and assistance to Islamabad to bolster Pakistan's counterterrorism capabilities in the volatile border regions with Afghanistan.
But, as independent international assessments have shown, not even onethird of this whopping assistance has been spent on the intended purpose of fighting the Taliban, which a section of Pakistan's ISI-military establishment still covertly supports.
A major chunk has been diverted to expand Pakistan's nuclear and conventional military capabilities against India . "An F-16 , for instance, can of course be used to let loose a missile on a cave or a militant stronghold but it's mainly meant to wage war against a state, not stateless actors,'' says a top Indian security establishment official.
The US may have so far refrained from handing over the Predator drones, controlled by satellites and armed with Hellfire missiles, which are being used by American forces in the Af-Pak region with telling effect. But it has opened the floodgates for a lot of other military hardware and software. These range from refurbished P-3 C maritime patrol aircraft and Cobra helicopter gunships to thousands of missiles like Harpoons, TOW-2 As and AIM-9 M Sidewinders.
The F-16 fighter programme, of course, is the showpiece of the American security assistance package to Pakistan . Under it, Pakistan is getting 18 spanking new advanced F-16 C/D Block 52 jets and mid-life upgrades for the 32 of the original 40 jets acquired by Pakistan Air Force in the mid-1980 s, with advanced targeting, precision-guided munitions (PGMs), sensor and radar systems. That's not all.
The USAF has also transferred 14 F-16 s, under its 'excess defence article' policy, to Pakistan since 2005. The entire F-16 programme also includes a deadly munitions package with AMRAAM (advanced medium-range air-toair missiles), 2,000-pounder bombs and JDAMs (joint direct attack munitions), which are guidance kits to convert gravity bombs into all-weather 'smart' bombs. "AMRAAMs are beyond-visual range missiles to take out enemy fighters in air combat. Does al-Qaida have fighter jets? They are obviously directed against India ," said a senior IAF officer.
For that matter, al-Qaida or Taliban also do not have warships. But the Harpoons , which arm the P-3 C aircraft, are potent all-weather , sea-skimming antiship missiles. Pakistan, in fact, has even modified the Harpoons, in contravention of US Arms Control Export Act, to expand its capability to strike land targets.

Why does Pakistan need F-16 S to fight Taliban?

We are using air force against these rogue elements of society. And our counter intelligence department is also seeking "monkeys" who fund and train these rebels; they are being caged frequently.

Furthermore, its unfortunately not Pakistan's diplomacy, but rather our strategic location and military capability that countries like USA, despise all their concers and hesitation, are supplying us state of the art fighters. No one in the world will think of cornering us in current situation.

And yes, your concerns are justified. These F-16's will not be used only for fighting against terrorists.
