Secularism is a necessary condition for democracy, as we can see from the aftermath of Zia's Islamization. Religion is good for culture and peace of mind but it should not be taken literally as that will make people think irrationally, and people who are irrational cannot take part in democracy or you will have idiolization and spiritualization and cults around leaders for example maoism, stalinism, bhuttoism and sharifism.
If children in Pakistan are not brainwashed since class 2 to learn Islamiat. Instead of Islamiat the course should be replaced with Ethics/moral philosophy ...and Critical thinking should be compulsory in Highschool. Then see how these kids will kick out Sharifs Zardaris and dirty Mullahs.
