1. How much pollution will it cause?
* The plants in Pakistan will use super critical technology that will require high temperature for the perimeter of steam and less coal consumption.
* We will have proper sulphurization process in the plant for less carbon emission, and sulphur dioxide would be brought down to zero level to avoid environmental hazards.
* Height of the Chimney had been set at 180 meters for safe emission
2. Why not build this plant away from populated area i.e., in desert etc as suggested by writer?
Coal based plant require
* Constant source of water (preferably canal)
* Constant supply of coal (cheapest mean for transfer is train)
* Transmission line to main grid.
If we build in desert, it will be near to impossible to get continuous water. And cost for railway track/road and transmission lines will overkill the project.
So we have to choose a location keeping in mind these three factors.
3. We are building coal power plants near sea as well (Port qasim plant is an example)
4. Coal is never transported in open wagons instead special wagons are used which are covered and PR has already bought those.
5. He has mentioned the engine with 3000HP will be used. This is wrong too, (he clarified it later in his article)
Pakistan has already imported 7 engines of 4500HP and more are coming which will be used for this.
I am not against coal based plants but, What will be the impact of running 12 extra trains on this rotten rail track? I means 6 this way and 6 returning? Just wait and see how all passenger trains will start getting late.
Practically, In punjab, they should only have installed gas plants
And they could have installed all these coal plants in Sindh.
