‘Patriotic citizen of the state’ comrade Jam Saqi passes away

KARACHI: Noted left-wing politician Jam Saqi, 73, passed away in Hyderabad due to kidney failure, family said Monday.

Born on 31st October 1944 in a village called Janjhi in the Chacharo District of Sindh, Saqi also served as the general secretary of the Communist Party of Pakistan.

He was highly respected among the politicians not only in Sindh but all over Pakistan. He fought against the dictatorships and human rights abuses all his life and faced the consequences.

Saqi was arrested and tried in a military court during General Zia’s regime in the 80s. During his trial former prime minister Benazir Bhutto appeared as his defence witness and deposed that ‘Saqi is patriotic citizen of the state’.





He remained behind bar till 1988. Saqi joined the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) in the 90s.
He will be laid to rest in Hyderabad today.

Jam Saqi was not very well known politician. I only know him because Saqi was the my elder brothers Ideal. According to him (my brother) Saqi is the only socialist leader in the country. He was such a fan of Saqi that he named his eldest son after his name, but it was changed after lots of resistance from every where.

I like your comments and respect you thoughts very well. But just for the sake of discussion I will say that the Surkh Inqilaab (the communism --- hell not the blood shed) did not survive even 50 years. Reason being that it was against the human nature. Man is made with the willingness to get rewarded full for his hard work. Only reason the communism died because it was not paying the hard worker their due share. The Communism survived until the generation who fought two world wars lived. In west this generation was carrying a predominant patriotism which made them stick to this un-natural system. Soon as this generation vanished, it all evaporated.
The true system is the Islamic system in which the hard worker is allowed to accumulate Halal as much as he can but his responsibility keeps rising for the poor around him as he accumulates. Until it becomes gunnah for him to hold and not distribute.
