In my opinion, all of you are missing a very important point.
It is mentioned that it appeared to Zulqarnain that the sun is setting into the water. So what appeared to Zulqarnain was based on the knowledge man had at that time. Now a man who knows Arabic can tell if it is really what the original text says regardless of the Urdu translation. Who else can tell this better than Dr. Zakir Naik. So please listen to him if not me.

As far as the place of sun set is concerned, it doesn't refer to the sun but it refers to the Zulqarnain who reached at the spot where he could see/believe sun setting into the water.

So both interpretations are correct if we read the verses in the light of other verses related to the sun, moon, earth and stars in general.

The Japanese call their land Nippon, meaning "Land of the Rising Sun." They do so because the ancient Japanese had discovered China and Korea but never found any other land on Eastern side because of the vast stretch of the Pacific. It is funny that you asked because the japanese called Japan "land of the rising sun" precisely because they thought that the earth was flat and their land is furthest to the east and there's no land between them and the JAGA where the sun rises. The european explorers took this name from japanese and hence the rest of the world.

The fact that scientific books, that are written by men, explain the rotation (to cause day and night), tilting (to cause the seasons) and orbiting of earth, in much more concise details, than the so called book of all-knowing god pretty much says it all.

All is well of course, if you have been brain washed all your life (by parents, teachers, siblings, relatives, friends etc) and you lack the capability of asking critical questions about your "perfect" book, which by the way, also describes the top quality scientific facts like, how shooting stars are missiles for Satan who are trying to escape OR top quality moral values like having $ex with your slaves (even the married ones with their husband around).
