Today I met Shehriyar Afridi in Jail. I shockingly learned that contrary to the IHC orders to remove Shehriyar from the death cell to an entitled barrack, the jail authorities, under the DC Islamabad directions, shifted him to the most notorious death cell, which was previously occupied by Mumtaz Qadri before being hanged. Still in solitary confinement, with no bathroom, Shehriyar has constantly been denied a pillow, cushion, or foam for sleep or leaning. Before placing Shehriyar in the draconian death cell, the jail authorities had piled up aids affected and TB patients in the same. He was grieved over the passing away of his elder brother and expressed his wish to have seen the deceased at least once before burial. Today I found him very tense and deeply concerned about the safety of his young daughters and spouse, and he said he wished he could have shifted them to any place on earth from Pakistan. He looked pale and physically weak and gave me a message for Imran Khan. His left arm is still undergoing paralysis, and his blood pressure level is abnormally high and complained about the lack of essential healthcare facilities. Today, the LHC Rawalpindi bench fixed the 19th and 20 of June in his cases. He is still fighting, but I saw pain and helplessness in his eyes for his family's safety. His kids and wife have already shifted to an undisclosed location, and the kid's education has been discontinued. He is fighting with himself and says he is vulnerable, but he will not let the name of Afridis down, come what may. I hugged him tight, kissed his forehead, and left him with a promise of uniting him with his family at the earliest.
