For 200 students, Swat village has only a single-room school
MINGORA: The one-room school with dilapidated roof and only two teachers for over 200 students in Chuangai village of Charbagh tehsil here speaks volumes about the tall claims of the PTI-led government that it has turned around the education infrastructure in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Located at a distance of 30 kilometers from Mingora town, the government primary school was established in 1979 in Chungai Roraiya village, but no government bothered to construct a proper building for it. The land for the mud-and-stone-built room was provided by a local resident.

Head teacher Rehmat Ali said they faced difficulty in handling such a large number of students, adding during rains it was difficult to run the classes.

The students said they were afraid of sitting in the dilapidated room as it was on the verge of collapse. We usually sit on the roof of a nearby mosque, but when it rains some classes are taken in the room. Small pieces of mud and stones fall on us and the roof starts leaking whenever it rains, said Mohammad Shah, a grade four student.

Yaqoob Khan, another student, said most often they had to take classes sitting on the roof of the mosque. He said some students were injured when a sign board of the mosque fell on them owing to strong winds.

Yaqoob lamented that while schools in cities had proper and spacious buildings with all the required facilities, schools in villages were in bad shape.

It is to mention here that there is no middle or high school in the area for both the girls and boys, and the nearest middle school is at a distance of about five kilometres from the village.

We are poor people and cannot afford to send our girls to the nearest middle or high school as the two-way fare consumes Rs100, Sharif Khan, a local, regretted.

Mohammad Kamal, a youth councillor of the village, said candidates of every political party promised to construct the school building, but after being elected they forgot their promise, and even did not bother to visit the area.

This time, we were sure that the PTI government will construct the school building for our children, but nothing happened, he deplored.

The students appealed to PTI chief Imran Khan to direct the provincial government to rebuild the primary school.

The local MPA Dr Haider Ali Khan could not be contacted as he is out of the country.

Very sad State.

I hope the CM questions both the MPA & Education Minister on this sorry state of education in Chungai Roraiya village. My full wishes are with the KPK govt, that they would do justice not only to this but to every other school located in each village of KPK. Till a time comes that it'll be difficult to find a single dilapidated school in KPK.

If I were heading KPK, I would create an order desk unit, who's sole responsibility would be to gather information from the locals (by phone, mail, or via reference) for towns and villages that lack basic facilities (health, education, water, electricity etc). This way the MPA's could be held directly responsible for issues that don't get solved and it'd be easier for the party to allocate tickets.

But at the same time Media is not doing right comparison, trying to find a school in a remote village and then challenging the complete educational reform claim of PTI is not fair. They are trying to create an impression that nothing happened in KPK and all schools are like the one shown. The piece if you read it lacks basic journalism ethics of neutrality and is more of a critic piece on PTI-led government.

There are more than 30,000 primary schools al over KP, some completely destroyed by militancy. It will take much time to overhaul all of them, specially which are in far flung areas like this one is.

Did you notice how the writer of this report had to go 30 KM away from Mingora city which itself is not a big town to find a school to write a farmaishi report regarding the failing of education sector? This also means he could not find any such school in the main, city areas probably because they have pr most of them have already been fixed.

Is it your assumption?

PTI is doing what other governments haven't done in the 69 years History of Pakistan..

Now people are showing only small flaws because they have overcome majority of the issues, for which we are proud of PTI...

KPK was the poorest, most corrupt, worst hit by terrorism, and overburdened by the load of afghan refugees when PTI took over. PTI has done x1000 in 4 years what PMLN couldnt do in decades, whether its in education or health. Have some shame before comparing David to Goliath. You sound like a distorted mesh of Maryam Aurangzeb and Abid Sher Ali.

Yes small flaws, because the Party that pays for your Propaganda threads didn't ever paid attention to improve even the urban schools let alone these schools that have been neglected for decades. You know education is still not their priority and will never be.

(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)(jhanda)
