PESHAWAR: Despite clear directives by the inspector general of police (IGP) and reminders from the Central Police Office, the culture of shoulder promotion hasn’t been discontinued in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police, The News learnt.
After assuming the charge of office, IGP Ihsan Ghani had issued directives to all the relevant officials to remove the additional badges of senior ranks. However, they were directed to continue working against the senior positions due to the shortage of senior officers.
The Central Police Office sent reminders to all the ranges and districts to implement the directive. However, it was learnt that the orders haven’t been fully implemented as most of the grade-19 officers are wearing the badges of grade-20 deputy inspector generals. “Many DSPs and ASPs are wearing the badges of SPs and inspectors in the uniform of DSPs,” said a source.
When some reporters questioned the non-compliance of the directive regarding shoulder promotion during a meeting with IGP Ihsan Ghani, he insisted that all the additional badges have been removed from the shoulder-promoted officers.
The IGP and the spokesman for the Central Police Office during a recent chat with The News claimed that the orders about bringing an end to the shoulder promotions have been implemented in letter and spirit.
Some officers have challenged the directives in the apex court and many have openly refused to wear badges of own ranks while working against the senior positions. Many argued they were given shoulder promotion at a difficult time to lead operations against the militants but now they were being forced to remove badges. It is pertinent to mention that the previous IGPs too had failed to implement the directives about the shoulder promotions.

Eventhough you are a hopeless cause but even then I have to respond to your no brain post..ITS POLICE if they wanted to symbolically do something, they could have caught the people who broke Jail few backs...

I think its rather disturbing to see these clowns in the picture trying to beat around the "bushes" then implementing the spirit of the drive. Sweeping some hand picked tree branches, is not what Imran would planned them to do, nor would it encourage other to fellow it. I think they are so use to of bypass directions that they have no clue how to do it right.

I met Ihsan Ghani, IG KP, last weekend, he is a down to earth person. I can hope that he is a good addition in KP govt and his department is doing something substantial which we all can really see. KP police is in action and its reformation. We all should encourage the brave men of KP police which is the frontline to terrorism since its outset and has suffered alot even more than army.

یار اچھا ھے تکبر اور نخوت جاتی رھتی ھے چھوٹے چھوٹے کام اپنے ھاتھ سے کریں تو سنت بھی ھے اور صفای جیسی ضروری بات کا ادراک بھیی ھوجاتا ھے جو ایمان کا نصف حصہ ھے پاکیزگی صفای کے بغیر نصیب ھی نھیں ھوتی۔
