Ibn Battuta was scholar and traveller who is known for the account of his travels and excursions called the Rihla (Voyage). His journeys lasted for a period of nearly thirty years and covered almost the entirety of the known Islamic world and beyond, extending from North Africa, West Africa, Southern Europe and Eastern Europe in the West, to the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Central Asia, Southeast Asia and China in the East, a distance readily surpassing that of his predecessors and his near-contemporary Marco Polo.

He was one of the greatest Muslim historian that ever lived and lived in India for many years, assimilated with the locals, learnt to speak and write Sanskrit, Hindi and many regional languages and admired few things in the Indian custom and culture but detested many of its daily and religious rituals. He wrote that at the end of his travel: on the one side Hindu mythology transcends to heaven but at the same time it falls down into cow dung with its abject, frivolous and nefarious religious philosophy of inhuman Caste System and worshiping any and everything walking on four legs on its belly (rats, snakes, lizards, cows, monkeys, elephants) and man-made deities in stone and wood.

In the Hindu ethos, it is also considered a sacred ritual to bathe as many orthodox Hindus do in cow's urine for spiritual enlightenment and taking a cow dung message for physical healing. They love sharing a plate of rice and dal with their rat bhagwans in Rajasthan temples for spiritual reward. Whilst, I admit that Bharat is one of the ancient civilizations of the world, and its religious mythology transcends to cosmos but at the same time its ethos sinks deep in the cow dung of 'cow mata'.

Indian caste system is embedded in the Hindu religion and the most essential part of its theology. The untouchable Hindus are shunned by majority and not allowed to eat with non-untouchables, sit on the same table, sit together on a sofa next and attend the same church or religious ceremonies with a higher caste Hindu? The fact of the matter is that that the Hindu caste system is not a division of labour as claimed to distinguish the untouchables but it is in fact the stigma and label of birth as preached by the Hindu religion.

An untouchable was born an untouchable since the inception of Hindu ethos over thousands of years ago and remains so even today. He she is not treated as an equal in the Hindu society because for thousands of years, they have been carrying the certificate (classification of birth) "untouchable". India cannot claim to be a secular state and a democracy when over 50% of its masses are treated as untouchables and shunned by the few higher-caste Hindus as outcasts and the lowest of Indian society. The caste system still prevails in India, though on January 26, 1950, the constitution of India abolished it, which left many innocent Shudras ruthlessly abused and massacred by upper-caste people like Brahmins.

Shudra according to Vedas is classified as the lowest of the four castes. The ideal society prescribed by the Vedas is known by the name Chaturvarna and must satisfy three conditions and must be composed of four classes, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas and Shudras.. The interrelations of these classes must be regulated by the principle of graded inequality. In other words, all these classes are not to be on equal level but to be one above the other, in point of status, rights and privileges. The Brahmins were placed at the top; the Kshatriyas were placed below the Brahmins but above the Vaishyas; the Vaishyas were placed below the Kshatriyas but above the Shudras and the Shudras were placed the lowest of all. Brahmin was born from Hindu god Vishnus head; Kshatriya from his chest; Vaishyas from his thigh and Shudras from his foot and introduced the caste system, which is considered to be the most iniquitous.

The Shudra were born to do menial jobs for all the three superior classes. A Shudra enjoyed no rights or privileges. He was not permitted to perform any religious, sacrifices , read or learn the Vedas or recite the mantras. A Shudra could marry only another Shudra. He was not allowed to enter temples and could only serve the upper three castes as a slave, barber, blacksmith or cobbler. A Shudra was forbidden to walk side by with a Brahim or hear him recite religious sermons and if found of the guilt of the crime, the Shudra was punished by pouring molten iron in his ears. Indian culture is still riddled with the most socially iniquitous, prejudiced, discriminating society that defiles human conscious, logic and wisdom. India is neither a democracy or a secular state but a fundamentalist Hindu state and the fake gloss of democracy is to fool the world. Even, they give their WMDS, nuclear sites, nuclear bombs, nuclear missiles and rockets Hindu gods and goddesses names to demonstrate their Hindu fanaticism and fundamentalism.

Muslim rule of India for nearly 1200 years was the most glorious, harmonious and prosper in the Indian history. Islam is the most peaceful, tolerant and magnanimous religion, which allowed total freedom and human rights to non-Muslims living in its domain. Despite ruling India for nearly 1200 years, Muslims never forced Hindus and Buddhist to convert to Islam but millions of minorities converted willingly to Islam to escape the distasteful Hindu caste system and a large number of Buddhists converted to Islam to escape persecution from Hindu fundamentalists and fanatics.

Problem with your kind is that you never like to learn and prefer to remain stuck deep into the sand of ridiculous and absurd. The Muslims are mocked and ridiculed all around the world but when we retort; you have not got the guts and stomach to digest rightful criticism. Why do you not look deep into your ethos and then abuse the Muslims and Islam just for the sake of fun and perfidy?

I do not wish to offend you but would like to mention here some of the facts that are beyond human intelligence to comprehend but found in the Hindu culture.

It is beyond the realm of human decency, dignity and morality that a place of worship or otherwise would display pornographic material. I was told once told that the lewd display of licentious orgies of Hindu-deities in the temples represents sublime art-form erotica but please, I request, do not house them in your temples where you worship but keep them in the privacy of your homes. This kind of Kama Sutra display is catching on fast in the Indian film industry and on their TV screens and erotica has become a pride of Indian exports.

Shambo, the sacred bull suffering from bovine tuberculosis was finally put to death last year in Wales (UK) despite many months of protest and petitions by Hindus across the world. Cow and bull are given a sacred place in Hindu religion and culture as a mark of respect. The cow symbolizes motherhood through the offering of milk, and the bull represents the father who tills the soil and provides grain. Shambo is also one of the names of Hindu God Shiva. In physical terms lingam denotes an erect penis. Shiva lingam is the most worshipped entity in Hinduism religion. We find Shiva temples having a Shiva lingam installed in them at every nook and corner of India and every Hindu house in the world.

In the remotest villages and areas of India, a ritual and ceremony of fertility for a bride is held before the wedding night (suhag raat). The bride who is a virgin is taken to a Hindu temple in a trance state possibly drugged with intoxicants to get hymen - rupture - blessing from the Hindu god of fertility, Shiva lingham, made of stone or wood into a shape of huge erect penis but she is penetrated not by the god but the temple priest or one of his assistant or assistants, which the groom is credited after nine months for his fertility. This kind if frivolous ritual and many others more pernicious defy wisdom and confirm deformity of mind of the proselytes and preachers of Hinduism. It baffles and astonishes intelligence that human beings all over the world, either living far from civilization, in town or big cities like Bangalore working in IT resource centres or Bollywood film industry are so brain washed that they lose all sense of rationale and logic to indulge into such self-inflicting ethos of idol worshipping. But this is the deformed nature of man when he loses any sense of direction and has no hesitation in following absurdities and frivolous mythologies.

The problem for India and the reason it will never eradicate poverty is its ethos, and the evil caste system which is article of Hindu faith. It is predicted on the basis of the superiority of some over others simply by birth and that those who are lower caste must be treated worse than animals because of crimes in a "previous life"- to an upper class Hindu Brahmin the idea that an untouchable should be as wealthy as him is unbearable and blasphemous.

Hinduism - Questions you should have asked before posting the above garbage.

Why there are so many gods in Hinduism ?

Generally Hindus believe in one Supreme God. But there are many gods who are praised in the religion. These gods are actually the life supporting powers. For example Sun (Surya), Water (Varuna), and Air (Vayu) without which the life cannot exist. In Hinduism these elements which make the life possible are praised along with the Very Essential God. This gives the feeling that Hindus believe in many gods. At the end God is still but in differenr names as Vishnu, Ram or Krishna.

Why is Hinduism so confusing ?

There are multiple reasons for that. Trying to do an in and out analysis without getting on to taste its fruit by practicing would make one feel exhausted. Because it is not a religion of limited contours. It is really an ocean of knowledge.

Why Hindus worship idols ?

Though the Supreme God is beyond a definite form with specifiable attributes, the Attributeless could be enjoyed only at a matured yogic state. For the benefit of the creatures the God appears in various forms for the matured visions. These splendid forms are easy to comprehend even for a layman. It just acts as a carrier or catalyst.

Does Hinduism prohibit meat eating ?

There are actually very less things as prohibits, commands, mandates etc in Hinduism. So in this case too Hinduism does not prohibit, but it recommends that meat eating could be avoided for spiritual benefits and kindness towards fellow creatures. The basis why meat eating is discouraged is that Hindus beleive all living creatures has a soul and has a right to live thus following non-violence.

What is Hinduism's sacred text ?

Hinduism is not based on one single text book. The entire science of living is derived from the Vedas - which means knowledge. it is actually a large collection of many books, and can be divided into many disciplines like Upanishads, Puranas, Vedas, and epics like Ramayan and Mahabharat. (There are 4 vedas namely Rig, Sama, Yajur, Atharvana and 108 Puranas.). However, while it might not be feasible to read the entire set of Vedas in one's lifetime, the book Bhagwat Gita (spoken by God himself, hence considered - Sound representation of god) captures the basic essence of the entire vedas. Hence, it is the most popular book among the hindus and anyone follwoing the gita can be loosely classified as a hindu.

What are the marks on the forehead of Hindus ?

There are many virtual lotuses of power locus in the human body. The one at the place between the eye brows is highly powerful (which could be felt). This highly sensitive point is protected with the kumkum or sandalwood paste dots. It also signifies the presence of the Lord's feet on our forehead, a mark of respect to Him.

Why is Hinduism so complex to understand ?

Well, Hinduism was not born out of the thoughts of one particular philosopher or at one particular time. It is an accumulation of the knowledge and experience of seers from ancient time. Also as it does not impose the supremacy of one specific postulation hence many complementary at times totally different concepts exist because of this openness. This advantage makes it sophisticated.

So could it not be understood by simple minds ?

It could certainly be and it is. Apart from being sophisticated it is also having various step by step procedures that arose out of the sophisticated thesis, for the layman to follow.

Who can become a Hindu ? Can one be a Hindu only by birth ?

No, not at all. As the knowledge in Hinduism is not in a closed boundary, Hinduism does not limit itself to any closed boundary of land, language or race. Infact, since its a way of life, there might be lots among us who would be practicing Hinduism without actually realizing it.

Hinduism is the religion of one particular land called India, right ?

No, actually not. This new name called Hinduism given to this discipline is what makes it appear it as the religion of one land. The religion is said to belong to india because most of the development of this religion took place in India. Many of the incarnations of the Lord manifested themselves in places which form the current Indian cities of Mathura, Haridwar, Dwarka, Rameshwaram, etc. All these places are major sources of attraction for the devotees even today, and most of them house majestic temples in devotion to our eternal Lord. The spirit of Hinduism is so deeply ingrained in the Indian people's mindset, and the religion itself has come to be associated with the landscape of India.

Though it is currently practiced mainly in India there are references in scriptures like the 'Shiva Mahaa Puraanam' and 'Srimad Bhagwatam' that this worship was spread throughout the world. While the other parts have forgotten this history, it is still very much prevalent in India.

What is this caste system ?

Quite long ago the society was divided into four castes depending upon the nature of service they do so that they together make sure the smooth running of the social system. It was like the operational divisions of organizations. These four castes were the four functional pillars on which the society was standing. In the course of time the caste started to get determined by birth and later some of these sections started considering themselves superior to others. This finally led to the cruelty and inhuman behaviors of untouchability etc. There has been time and again cautions from Hindu scholars against these inhuman behaviors. Now this system is getting phased out and the Hindus should be soon out of the bad taste it left.

What is the status of women under Hinduism ?

There is absolutely no discrimination against women in Hinduism. This is reinforced by the fact that Feminity is worshipped in the form of knowledge (Saraswati), wealth (Lakshmi), chastity (Sita), warrior (Durga), Mother Earth, Rivers, etc. Females have the same rights as men when it comes to practising religion, like worshiping, fasting, etc.Feminity is worshipped in the forms of rivers, land, etc. Females have the right to perform worship as their male counterparts. There are many vedic sages, philosophers of later day, poets queens and so on from the womenfolk. The female commands the respect of the family. Quite naturally the wife is called saha dharmini or the companion in the dharma.

Who can be a Hindu ?

All the people, without restrictions of any sort. For, the God is common to the one living in Arctic, Antartic as well as in Sahara. It is the God of those things beyond this Earth. Hinduism welcomes the pure knowledge from all horizons as well as can provide the paths for the whole world, with no exceptions, to lead a life that is relishable and that takes to the ever lasting Eternal Bliss.

Here is a statement from the heart of the vedas
May the mind stabilize on the rudra, by which we, the two legged creatures, four legged ones, the whole world prosper !

The Grace of God does not limit to even just human beings. Its is for all the lives in this earth and beyond ! So Hinduism emphasises that not only can all the humans worship through its path, but also shatters away all barriers that differentiate even animals to be not eligible for God's grace.

Critics of Hinduism often criticize it for many of its prevalent ills like Sati, caste system, dowry, bride-burning, animal sacrifice etc. We would like to point out that while other religions have come up in the last 2-3000 years, Hinduism has taken shape hundreds of thousand of years ago. Not all activities of that age have been correctly captured by people of our age, and some things still remain difficult to understand. India has been under invasion for last thousands of years from Persian/ Islamics and till recently Colonial invasion, during this period most people were poor, uneducated and illiterate. Many myths set in, many rumours took hold in the minds of the people during that time, and the result was many misunderstood and ill-applied practises like the above. But such things have never been part of the religion, only a practice applied to wrong effect by some sections of the society. People are now realizing this fault, and correcting their mistakes, and the results of which are already visible. There can always be doubts and questions in people's minds, however, Hinduism has ample room for all points of view

Hinduism Misconception and truth

Misconception

A popular misconception is Hinduism is polytheistic - believes in multiple Gods.

Truth

God is Infinite. The Infinite can be represented in Infinite ways and does manifest in infinite ways. This, in short, is the essence of the Hindu belief in God. That He is everywhere, around us and within us. God being infinite, takes up many forms, at different periods of time, to help us and we worship those many forms of the SAME god, hence, god is only one, it is his forms that are many, and which we worship. Infact, Hinduism takes the bold step of proclaiming that "we all are a part and parcel of God". He is within each one of us.

At the end of the day, Hinduism is monotheistic (Believes in One God). However, Hinduism believes not only in One God, but also in His Infinite manifestations around us and within us perpetually. Realizing that it is impossible for mankind to visualize the Infinite, Hinduism presents us with His forms to help us visualize him. This belief of Hinduism is often confused with polytheism.

To illustrate this point - We all observe the unending processes of birth, existence and death, which seem to be continually taking place around us. We constantly witness these processes and are yet ignorant of them, living as we do in the comfort of our illusory lives. Hinduism gives form and shape to these "works" of the Infinite with the Hindu Trinity - Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. "Brahma" creates, "Vishnu" sustains, and "Shiva" destroys or consumates everything in the Universe.

That the Supreme can be worshipped in any form is a concept unique to Hinduism. Such worship is truly a tribute to His greatness.

Idol Worship

Misconception

Another popular misconception is that Hinduism promotes idol worship.

Truth

Hinduism does not promote idol worship. To the contrary, Hinduism urges us to transcend all physical aids to worship, in our spiritual progress. Realizing that it is impossible for the mortal human to visualize the Infinite and instead of sustaining false hopes of such achievements, the religion urges us to slowly and steadily continue our progress in pursuit of the Truth. For such steady progess, the religion asks us to start with physical aids such as temples and idols, and through practice and devotion, ultimately succeed in visualizing God without the aid of temples and idols.

We are asked not to worship idols, but worship God in the form of idols. This is done to facilitate contemplation of the Infinite with our finite capabilities. To quote none other than the great intellectual, Swami Vivekananda on this matter - "If a person wants to drink milk, he uses a cup as he cannot drink it directly. For the quivering and unsteady mind, there should be a visible form or a symbol, the idol, so that it becomes a foundation for his adoration. The idol form of God is akin to a vessel which enables a man to drink the milk. Through the instrumentality of an idol, a devotee comprehends divinity."

The Caste System of the Hindus

Misconception

Hinduism promotes stratification of society under the "caste system" and encourages discrimination against the less fortunate.

Truth

The caste system, originally described in the Vedas, but much abused and maligned over the years, is nothing but a representation of an efficient human society. The four castes described in the scriptures are - the Brahmins, the Kshatriyas, the Vaishyas, and the Shudras. According to the Vedas, an efficient human society is based on the strength of its educational/knowledge-pursuit system (Brahmin), its military and defense system (Kshatriya), its economical and business system (Vaishya), and a strong, happy, productive workforce (Shudras).

This noble representation was misinterpreted, exploited, and abused by a few in the Indian society, leading to the indiscriminate creation of thousands of castes and sub-castes, including the so-called "upper" castes. Fortunately, the caste system has been more or less abolished since Indian independence and the distinctions are beginning to disappear and there is a significant change atleast with the educated and young

The case that you have pointed out is an isolated one and does not represent the attitude of general people of Islamic soceities and their respective govt'. Every soceity, culture has an exception and isolated cases on a daily basis.

In 1989 or thereby 400 years old one of the landmarks of the Indian culture and heritage, Babri Masjid was brought down by some prominent Hindu terrorist.

To suggest that all Hindus of the Indian soceity were behind and approved of the desecration of the mosque, would be a very sad and insult to all Hindus.

No Pakistani has any problem with any Hindu, its the terrorist govt of India and some Hindu groups, that we have problems with. Also, the officially practiced caste system is we talk about. i have worked with more than 50 Hindus in the USA. Only one was that I just could not stand. From the project manager to the receptionist were all imported Indians for the project, and were very nice to me.

not all Hindus are bad and not all Muslims are bad

I do not take pleasure in mentioning ridiculous rituals and evil doings practiced by many Hindus of urine-drinking, killing of brides for the sake of dowry, the burning alive of widows in the name of Sati, female infanticide, worshiping monkeys, snakes, rats, elephants, cows, bulls, stones and over two million man-made gods. Such practices call for instituting reform in the Hindu society but only the high caste Hindus can make a difference in this regard.

One more bizarre practice in the Hindu social inequality for life and the caste system is the practice of eating rats by the low caste Hindus. In an article titled, " Requiem for the Rat Eaters" published in the magazine, Asia (Vol. 150, No.16, October 20, 1997), the practice of rat eating among the low caste Hindus. On the vast social ladder that is India, no one sits on a lower rung than the Musahars. Like other sub-castes, theirs is both an inherited place in society and an occupation: the Musahars are fieldworkers, and one of their special skills is ridding crop fields of predators such as snails and, most often, rodents. Poorest of the poor, they are known for their habit of eating their prey: in the Hindi language, mus means rat, and ahar food.

India's rat-eating Musahars, concentrated in the backward state of Bihar, number over two million. Replying to allegations made by MP Ashwini Kumar in a public interest litigation, the Jayalalithaa (the then Chief Minister) governments affidavit said: Before water is let out in the Cauvery river and canals, farmers usually ferret out field rats in the ridges of the fields and while doing so, it is common for the labourers to select robust rats for cooking after removing the skin during the rainy season and during summer.

The other side of this story is the esteem in which rats are held by the upper caste Hindus. Mark Moxon, in his travelogue of June 27, 1998, found a temple in Bikaner in the State of Rajasthan that is a special place for rats. In the city of Deshnoke is the Karni Mata Temple. There, the rats are held to be destined for reincarnation as Sadhus ( Hindu holy men). The attending priests feed milk and grain, of which the pilgrims also partake, to the animals. Eating food that has been touched by the animals is considered a blessing from god. In Hindu mythology, a rat is the vehicle of elephant-headed god, Ganesha.

India is world's largest democracy. It is an interesting and a country at odds with itself, and a total paradox of its democratic image abroad. We read so much about economic progress there but unfortunately, thousands of years old caste system is still intact. You only have to look at the out skirts of Mumbai and other Indian big cities to find it for yourself the worst slumps and despicable conditions in which millions of poor live; it is worse than the rats and dogs live in sewers and rubbish tips.

Some Musahars have drifted into other occupations, such as construction work, but the vast majority subsist as their ancestors did. Decades of affirmative action programs may have buoyed other Dalit (untouchable) groups, but opportunities have yet to sink to the bottom of the social pyramid. A.K. Biswas, a state bureaucrat in Bihar who has written about the group, says he has never come across a Musahar doctor, lawyer or engineer. "They are very hardworking and dependable," says Biswas, but he notes that few ever escape the rat-infested fields. The humble Musahars eagerly tell visitors of the one time they made a mark in Indian history: during a plague in the late 19th century, the British administration called on their expertise to help rid cities of rats. And they take hope in the small number of their own who have made names for themselves.

It appears that rat eating among the Hindus is not confined to the State of Bihar. In an article titled, "Rat eating in Tamil Nadu is not due to poverty" published in the Times of India of Aug. 19, 2003, it was reported that the Tamil Nadu government told the Supreme Court that it was common for labourers in the Thanjavur area to eat robust rats but their eating habits were not due to starvation.

A vast majority of India's Hindus support the right wing Hindu Janta Party and fanatic saffron robed political parties, which are controlled by the high castes. Their anti- monotheism proclivity is self-destructive. They are quite happy to see the poor, have nots' and untouchables of the society to live and die in the same way and conditions as their fore-fathers had lived for thousands of years.

The progressive government of Congress party led by Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, is trying to uplift the low castes and the minorities. I must wish him success.

Why there are so many gods in Hinduism ?

Generally Hindus believe in one Supreme God. But there are many gods who are praised in the religion. These gods are actually the life supporting powers. For example Sun (Surya), Water (Varuna), and Air (Vayu) without which the life cannot exist

-- I can NOT believe you keep writing as such  It's like an affirmation followed by a complete negation of the specific definition of "God" i believe you tend to bypass intentionally or unintentionally the most significant and the fundamental point each and every time you try vainly to defend the concept of God. Sun,moon, stars, planets, galaxies and all that we see between the sky and the earth, beyond the skies underneath the earth what we know of and what we are NOT aware of are all "Creation" by "Only One and One God".

--You say "One" and immediately thereafter the very next breath "multiple entity" complements it :o It's an of utmost importance to root out the very foundation of such an incorrect, abhorrent and flawed concept,it sounds more like you agree and then disagree  you can NOT even be real saying such a thing,it all boils down to using the brain and thinking right and rationalizing,it's plain and simple math and reasoning.

--God is One and One only and does NOT have any "partners" and does NOT need any assistance of any kind whatsoever, requiring assistance is a sign of weakness and an imperfection diluting the word "God" outright, the whole purpose and motive of "God" is lost when someone tries to idiotically or ignorantly relate any kind of helping hand to God, being humans and a creation we stand true to requiring help in any kinda task and it holds true of any of the creation NOT the creator :ugeek:
