Stealing someones invention

A few days ago I remember seeing a post about some Pakistani students winning the MIT Sloan award for creating a low cost ventilator. It so happens that one of the students had stolen (strong evidence provided) this device from another Pakistani ITU Associate professor and marketed it as his idea (having included his int'l student buddies abroad) to global competitions.

This is extremely shameful as this individual (Shaheer Piracha) stole another Pakistani's hard work, and since he comes from a well established n rich business family, he is taking advantage of his daddy's deep pockets to get away with Intellectual Property (IP) theft.

The likes of Teslas have always been robbed of their due places by the likes of Edisons. Most of these geniuses are not aware of the business aspects of their inventions. Usually they lack the means to fight a legal battle in case of theft of their inventions/ideas.

Having said that GOP and it's concerned departments should take notice and get to the bottom of it.

Has anybody heard or read the story of Robert Keans, the guy who invented a simple device like the intermittent wind shield wiper and was robbed of a potential fortune by big name car companys like Ford and Chrysler.

Disgusting. But always happening. Intellectual property theft should be criminalized with proper investigations and charges. No rocket science that it's the weak who are exploited, be it women, lower technical staff, juniors, naive and over-trusting researchers, etc. It should be binding on institutions/companies to track data from raw bench work to its final proposal form, establish ownership and detect anything suspicious, before using the research.
