Status of 365 Micro Hydro and other Hydro projects in KPK

365 Micro Hydro Power Projects(MHPP):

• 260 were completed by Dec 2017
• 365 set to complete by June 2018

These provide very cheap electricity. These units are managed by local people on their own after government did the initial build.

Extension of 365 Micro Hydro Power Projects:

• This project is extended to 1000 MHPP
• 635 MHPP will be constructed by the next KPK government (likely PTI per all the latest surveys)

Other Hydro Projects completed by PTI government:

• Ranolia HPP (Kohistan) : 17 MW completed: March 2015
• Machai HPP(Mardan): 2.6 MW completed: March 2015
• Daral Khwar HPP(Swat): 36.6 MW completed: December 2015

Federal government is delaying to connect these to the national grid as they want to make money from imported LNG used for power generation.

Projects planned to complete in 2018

• Jabori HPP (Mansehra): 10.2 MW
• Karora HPP (Shangla): 11.8 MW

Projects planned to complete in 2019

• Koto HPP (Lower Dir): 40 MW
• Matiltan HPP (Swat): 84 MW
• Lawi HPP (Chitral): 69 MW

Projects planned to complete by 2022

• Naran Dam HPP (Mansehra): 168 MW
• Sharmai HPP (Upper Dir): 150 MW
• Shigokach HPP (Lower Dir): 102 MW
• Arkari GOL HPP (Chitral): 99 MW
• Batakundi HPP (Mansehra): 96 MW
• Ghor Band HPP (Shangla): 21 MW
• Nandihar HPP (Battagram): 12 MW

The people who are criticizing the Megawatts, produced by this project are ignoring the facts
- These small projects cover a large moutaneous area.
- Connecting these far plunged mountainous areas would have required a lot of resources, time and money to get them connected to national grid.
- Tourists would now find electricity even in the remote areas making tourism easy for them.
- Local will find it easier to accomodate tourists because of electricity facility.
- Students would now even study at night in these remote areas.
- Locals plus the tourists will not be cut of from rest of Pakistan now only because they wouldn't be able to watch TV, and/or charge their phones.

چترال سے تعلق رکھنے کی بنا پر اس بات کا عینی شاہد ہوں کہ ان پن بجلی کے منصوبوں سے ۳ روپے فی یونٹ بجلی گھر پر میسر ہیں ۲۴ گھنٹے۔ ماہانہ بجلی کا بل ۳۰۰ سے ۴۰۰ روپے کے درمیان آتا ہے۔ بڑے منصوبوں کا ضرور سوچنا چاہیے مگر چھوٹے چھوٹے یہ منصوبے بھی قابل ستائش ہیں۔

200 out of 356 which are already completed is off grid power projects for local community.

Need to be connected with national grid but federal government doesn’t agree on the prices.
