Zamzam water which is also called 'Aab-e-zamzam is special. To Muslims this blessed water is special in significance and history. This article helps you learn some facts, history and significance of zamzam water.
It is a miraculously-generated source of water from Allah (God), which began thousands of years ago when Ibrahim (as) infant son Ismael (as) was thirsty and kept crying for water and was kicking at the ground when water gushed out. Millions of pilgrims visit the Well each year while performing the Hajj or Umrah pilgrimages, in order to drink its water.

Facts:

  • This small 5 ft. deep well is far away from any other source or body of water.
  • It is self-replenishing. It is constantly replenishing itself in order to produce gallons upon gallons of water for consumption of thirsty pilgrims plus the additional amount that is bottled and also the amount that is taken as gifts distributed worldwide to millions
  • Zamzam water has scientifically been proven to contain healing qualities due to its higher content of Calcium and Magnesium Salts and also the natural fluorides that encompass a germicidal action.
  • It is also an established scientific fact that pools or water wells tend to grow vegetation such as algaeespecially in warm climates. Amazingly this is not the case in the well of Zamzam. It has remained free from biological contaminants.
  • The Well of Zamzam or just Zamzam; is a well located within the Masjid al Haram in Makkah, 20 meters east of the Kaaba, the holiest place in Islam.
    z3.jpg
  • Never Dried Up:This well has never dried up. On the contrary it has always fulfilled the demand for water.
  • Same Salt composition:It has always maintained the same salt composition and taste ever since it came into existence.
  • Portability:Its portability has always been universally recognised as pilgrims from all over the world visit Ka'aba every year for Hajj and umrah, but have never omplained about it. Instead, they have always enjoyed the water that refreshes them.
  • Water tastes different at different places. Zamzam water's appeal has always been universal.
  • This water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water pumped into the cities.Biological growth and vegetation usually takes place in most wells. This makes the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste and odour problems. But in the case of the Zamzam water well, there wasn't any sign of biological growth.

History of zamzam water:

All traditions agree that Allah (SWT) created the well to provide Hajira, the wife of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him), and her baby Prophet Ismail (peace be upon him) with water in the hot, dry valley they were in, around the year 2000 BC.
Centuries ago, Bibi Hajra A.S. searched desperately for water in the hills of Saffa and Marwa to give to her newly born son Hazrat Ismail A.S. As she ran from one place to another in search of water, her child rubbed his feet against the sand. A pool of water surfaced, and by the grace of Allah Ta'ala, shaped itself into a well which came to be called Zamzam water.
Zamzam is linked to some of the most important personalities in world history: the Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail (peace be upon them) and Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him and his family), as well as Ismail's mother Hajira (may Allah be pleased with her).
According to Islamic tradition, Prophet Ibrahim (a.s.) rebuilt the Bait-ul-Allah (House of Allah) at the site of the well, a building which had been originally constructed by Prophet Adam (a.s.), and today is called the Kaaba (Qiblah), a building towards which all Muslims around the world face in prayer, five times each day. Zamzam well is located approximately 20 meters east of the Kaaba. Zamzam well is located in Makkah, which is the heart of the Hajj pilgrimage. Zamzam well is 35 meters deep and topped by an elegant dome. The miracle water of Zamzam is still flowing until today.

Significance of zamzam:

Zamzam water contains fluorides that have an effective germicidal action. It has always maintained the same salt composition and taste ever since it came into existence.
Water tastes different at different places. Zamzam water's appeal has always been universal. This water has never been chemically treated or chlorinated as is the case with water pumped into the cities. Biological growth and vegetation usually take place in most wells. This makes the water unpalatable owing to the growth of algae causing taste and odor problems."
One of the miracles of Zamzam water is its ability to satisfy both thirst and hunger. One of the Companions of the Prophet said that before Islam, the water was called "Shabbaa'ah" or satisfying. It was filling and helped them nourish their families.
After Islam, this powerful ability to quench thirst and fill stomachs remained. Prophet Muhammad said: "The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; it is a kind of food and a healing from sickness."
During Hajj and Umra, pilgrims are recommended to drink Zamzam water to their fill to quench their thirst. They also continue the tradition of bringing it back for family and friends.

Dr. Masaru Emoto from Yokohama University Japan is famous for his research on the behavior of water. Dr. Masaru Emoto studied the structure of zamzam water and presented at a seminar in Malaysia. The conclusion is that there is no water content in the world to equal the water content of Zam-Zam. It was revealed that the molecules of water of Zam-Zam is the most beautiful water molecules and beautiful among other water. He found that zamzam water has tremendous healing power. He said that it is always surrounded by prayer, so can cure all diseases.

Dr. Knut Pfeiffer, a Christian German doctor specialist in internel medicine, has discovered that Zamam water has far more positive effect on human cells than regular drinking water. He also believes that Islamic prayers are more positive effect on the energy and thus health than Christian prayers.

lol

So the SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH of a nonmuslim and FAMOUS scientist is as following

1. Zamzam MOLECULES are more BEAUTIFUL lol
2. Zamzam carries of powers of prayers so it has tremendous healing powers lol

Wow..... We can certainly tell the whole world about how great Zamzam "Scientifically" is, after the great discoveries of great Dr Emoto from Japan, that unleased greatest secrets of the Universe. I'm sure all the logical and sensible folks on Earth would heed this astonishing research and become Muslims.

Masaru Emoto was a disgraceful Pseudo scientist, he claimed that people's conscious has effect on water molecules he even got called on James a Randy show and offered $1000,000 if he could prove himself and he refused to participate. Only religious nutters can quote a nutter like this.

Ok, this news tells you how bogus urdu newspapers are as they don't follow any ethics, publish misleading stories to sell newspaper to further uneducated the masses, and sh!t on the whole concept of journalism. This is one reason why we need rules and standards that ensures professionalism in this field, and this is why rules, practice laws exits in every other profession around the world (certainly the developed world).

Now I did a little research about this so called scientist. First of all he is not a scientist but an author/entrepreneur/researcher. Emoto's work is widely considered to be pseudoscience (which is weird science where u just make tall claims but don't show proof or anything). Now I will quote real scientist, who you can go and look up yourself as well as see their work. Not only these scientist publish their work to public, but they also show how they did their experiments. Here is what they have to say about Emoto:

William A. Tiller (Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University), States that Emoto's experiments fall short of proof, since they do not control for other factors in the super-cooling of water.

William Reville (Biochemist and director of microscopy at University College Cork), "It is very unlikely that there is any reality behind Emoto's claims. Reville noted the lack of scientific publication and pointed out that anyone who could demonstrate such a phenomenon would become immediately famous and probably wealthy."

Tyler Volk (Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at New York University)”What he is saying has nothing to do with science as I know it.”

He was even invited to take the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge in 2003, and would have received US$1,000,000 if he had been able to reproduce the experiment about his water theory under test conditions agreed to by both parties. He did not participate.

Now what does this tell you about this “Japan kaa maya naaz scientist”? Just because he is from Japan doesn’t always mean he is right or add any credibility to his science. You have to prove peer review your work as any scientist from around the world

A lot of religious people especially Muslims like to use science to add credibility to their religion, but why isn’t what is said about zamzam in quran not enough? Why drag worldly science into it? I don’t know how healing Zamzam water is. Drinking it is one of the religious rituals in my opinion.

Source of Zamzam water:

It taps groundwater from the wadi alluvium and some from the bedrock. Originally water from the well was drawn via ropes and buckets, but today the well itself is in a basement room where it can be seen behind glass panels (visitors are not allowed to enter). Electric pumps draw the water, which is available throughout the Masjid al-Haram via water fountains and dispensing containers near the Tawaf area.[SUP][1][/SUP]
Hydrogeologically, the well is in the Wadi Ibrahim (Valley of Abraham). The upper half of the well is in the sandy alluvium of the valley, lined with stone masonry except for the top metre (3 ft) which has a concrete "collar". The lower half is in the bedrock. Between the alluvium and the bedrock is a [SUP]1[/SUP]⁄[SUB]2[/SUB]-metre (1 ft 8 in) section of permeable weathered rock, lined with stone, and it is this section that provides the main water entry into the well. Water in the well comes from absorbed rainfall in the Wadi Ibrahim, as well as run-off from the local hills. Since the area has become more and more settled, water from absorbed rainfall on the Wadi Ibrahim has decreased.

Hazard of over-consumption of Zamzam water:
In May 2011, a BBC London investigation found that fraudulent water marketed as having been taken from the Zamzam Well contained high levels of nitrate, potentially harmful bacteria, and arsenic at levels three times the legal limit in the UK.[SUP][9][/SUP] Arsenic is a carcinogen, raising concerns that Muslims who regularly consume commercial Zamzam water in large quantities may be exposed to higher risks of cancer. The British Food Standards Agency has in the past issued warnings about water claiming to be from the Zamzam Well containing dangerous levels of arsenic;[SUP][10][/SUP] such sales have also been reported in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where it is illegal to sell Zamzam water.[SUP][3][/SUP] The Saudi government has prohibited the commercial export of Zamzam water from the kingdom.[SUP][3][/SUP] However, there is a strong commercial demand for Zamzam water which has resulted in continued commercial distribution of water alleged to be Zamzam.

To be honest, I am at a point with religious authorities especially the Saudi government and their behaviour with their own pilgrims how much they respect their own people. That its not hard for me to believe the whole story behind Zamzam is bogus and they can go to any lengths including fitting an underground pipe connecting the old dried out well to fill it up with outside water. Not only will no body be able to check it as nobody is allowed access to the well, there is no way to tell whether the water is from this well or that as water is water, I know many Pakistanis who fill water from their taps and label it as Zamzam and sell it.

Dear Ferhanc

Its always a good idea to do a thorough research about the topic you so wanna share on the Internet. Mere faith must not be the only criterion behind floating funny information.

Heres few submissions in this regard

1. This is not an article by any doctor etc. You just copy pasted everything including pictures even from a website "https://spirituality.knoji.com/facts-history-and-significance-of-zam-zam-water/"......... Thanks for copy pasting, we appreciate your efforts

2. Next time try to get one or more references of the SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH published in scientific journals etc. If you cant do that then its baseless and dont call it science. Where has Dr Emoto published his research?

In the following i try to answer your questions which were silly in nature (but amazed you) and could be answered by common sense or from "Science for Dummies" book

1. Zamzam is not contaminated because its always been taken care of. Right from the era of Prophet to this point of time. When thousands of gallons of warter are "electronically" pumped out, Walls are mabled, Well is covered, No one is allowed to come near it, Cleanliness is a priority, and well has good depths, then its not possible for a water to be contaminated. Any well anywhere in the world, maintained at this level and pumped so much everyday, would never get contaminated

2. Its not the raw/original well. It has been moved away from its original location!!.. In order to facilicate Hajjis in a better way

3. Zamzam water has a high ph which is 8 and therefore it has a DIFFERENT taste (Which you call fresh). Its good to some people and bad to some other people as its "Alkaline". Ever heard of "Alkaline Diet"? Theres a common belief which is not scientifically supported that Akaline foods and water affect acidity of body fluids and thus can help improve health. Remember its not supported by Science.

4. Zamzam water can very well be contaminated, which is why its checked three times everyday by the King Abdullah Zamzam Water Distribution Center. Once BBC reported that Zamzam sold commercially in the UK (And people like you loved to drink it) was contaminated and a risk to Health. Then real Zamzam from the Well was tested by Ministry of Health of France and it was to some extent established that water sold in the UK was not real Zamzam and actually was risk to Health but still PEOPLE WITH FAITH GOT CURED lol

5 Water in the Well comes from Wadi-e-Ibrahim and Water levels there are decreasing. That area has ONE "Acquifer" (Source of Water), menaing that no matter where in that area do you dig another well, Water will taste same and possess same qualities. That explains why Zamzam carries off no special effects on its own, being a HOLY Well.

6. Waters dont run dry so quickly. Has Water in Punjab dried up since its been in use for Thousands of Years. It helped maintain Civilizations in that area. Still you dig a hundred feet and you get refreshing water. Similarly Saudi Arabia pumps more oil everyday then Zamzam, has oil run out? Not yet! How can Zamzam well run out of water. Hence Saudi Geological Survey has concluded that level of waters in Wadi-e-Ibrahim have decreased chiefly because of increasing settlements.

7. Water doesnt need to be treated when its already fresh (We suppose its not treated!) but we actually dont know whether its treated or not as NO FOREIGN researchers are allowed to examine the Water of Zamzam from its Well and INSIDE the Well. And in fact there are NO Scientific Researches available on Zamzam. Period. Water is treated or not can only be found out when the Well is examined which is forbidden per say.

8. You have claimed that taste of Zamzam has ever since the same.. This claim got me similing..... How do you know how it tasted 1700 years ago? Or even 1000? or even 200 years ago? Who is there who could tell us how it TASTED back then? Isnt it a silly claim? lol

9. Lastly, you're not or Muslims or not alone in this world believing in the Healthy Qualities of Holy Waters. Christians have a Holy Water too, LOURDES WATER, and most Christian Believers think this water can heal them and has healed many : p

Congratulations you've just hopped on the "Holy Water Cure of Everything Band Wagon"

And hindus have same holy effect of drinking cow urine, and highly contaminated ***** and jamna waters. Level of faith is matched. I live with 3 hindus in same apartment and had a tough fight to remove cow urine bottles from our apartment. Their faith in cow urine was sky high. In UAE, they can't import or sell cow urine legally, so many fake traders have an underground network of supply. Nobody checks whether its cow urine or camel urine but faith supersedes everything :)

The Saudi authorities have stated that water from the well was tested by the Group Laboratories of CARSO-LSEHL in Lyon, licensed by the French Ministry of Health for the testing of drinking water. According to reports of these results, the level of arsenic in Zamzam water taken at its source is much lower than the maximum amount permitted by the World Health Organization.[SUP][14][/SUP] The Saudi authorities have thus said that the water is fit for human consumption.[SUP][15][/SUP] Zuhair Nawab, president of the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS), has claimed that the Zamzam Well is tested on a daily basis, in a process involving the taking of three samples from the well. These are said to be examined in the King Abdullah Zamzam Water Distribution Center in Mecca, which is equipped with advanced facilities.[SUP][14][/SUP]

I did. He did not say water does not dry out, he only said water does not dry so quickly, which implies he said it does dry out but much more slowly than we think.
