how can we equate the journey of Rasul (SAW) and his companion to that of Quaid and his companion..
on what grounds is this analogy drawn..

I totally disagree with this point, all the "azaabs" that were sent on nations were after Allah s.w.t had sent a prophet among them and even after that the nation refused to follow and believe in the prophets and what they taught, only then Allah's wrath descended upon that nation. Like Prophet Nuh a.s, Prophet Lut a.s and so on.
"Yet thy Lord never destroyed the cities until He sent in their mother-city a Messenger, to recite Our signs unto them; and We never destroyed the cities, save that their inhabitants were evildoers." Surah Qasas 28:59
Since the last Prophet and Allah s.w.t final message has already been delivered, no more such "azaabs" will happen. Yes trials and tribulations will happen but you cannot classify them as nation wiping azaabs

And with ALL due respect to Dr Israr may Allah s.w.t grant him the highest degree, but this talk about Pakistan being the Quran is for lack of a better and more diplomatic term "complete hogwash"
Not necessarily for us and for our time azaab mean to wipe out the whole nation , what happening to most of Muslims Nations is no less than Azaab , Iran Syria Yemen and so on, Also for Jews the Azab is yet to come and they will be wipe out
