The Soviet Union called the Afghan mujahideen guerrillas and "terrorists"; the West then called them "freedom fighters". If the word had been around in the 18th century the British government would have used it to describe the American "patriots" as bastards, terrorists, insurgents, or another four-letter-loaded word. The Americans and the Europeans use the word "jihadi", "terrorist" or "insurgent" according to the vocabulary that fits into their equation.
During the Cold War, to drive the Soviets out of Afghanistan in the 1980s, US President Ronald Reagan and his vice president, George Bush Sr, called all Muslims for jihad by supporting different warlords and freedom fighters with arms and money; they were warmly welcomed, recruited with great enthusiasm and encouraged to report for duty immediately.
I find the implication that Islam encourages terrorism is absurd and to sully Islam. These terrorists labelled as “Islamic” by the West is a mendacious attempt to distort the facts in order to continue with their agenda of hitting innocent Muslims over their heads with bombs, cruise missiles, B52 bombers, smart bombs and kill innocents men, women and children in hundreds and thousands.
Over 1.60 billion peace-loving, God-fearing, and law-abiding Muslims living in the world have become victims of ex-US President GW Bush's law of the jungle and his cow boy philosophy “ Kill your enemy if you think or consider him to be so.” Terrorism breeds more terrorists and begets more terrorism and there must be a better way of eradicating this philosophy of jungle where the powerful with the biggest teeth and claws dominates.
